For how long? What habits have you picked during playing? How much dedication have you put into learning the game? And other things.

Been playing fighting games all my life, really.

My first fighting game was probably the SNES version of Killer Instinct back when I was about 6 or 7 years old. I sucked horribly at it, but since it's such a mash-friendly game, what with its crazy autocombo system, it made it super fun and easy for me to get into the genre, and the awesome characters, music, and graphics sure helped a lot. Sabrewulf was my guy, since he was cool and was the first character I could consistently perform extended combos with, and I dabbled with Spinal a couple times after watching my dad beat Eyedol with him, but once I really started getting good at the game, I picked up Cinder and never went back. So much fun. I'll still pop it in every now and then to this day.

Around the same time, my uncle had a Sega Saturn, where I would play games like Battle Arena Toshinden Remix, Virtua Fighter II, and Virtua Fighter Kids.

Battle Arena Toshinden is pretty shitty by modern standards, but it could be looked upon as the spiritual predecessor of the Soul Calibur franchise, which I briefly got into in my teens. I had fun with it, but it's pretty anime and the physics and engine feel like ass today. Would not recommend.

Virtua Fighter II was my first Virtua Fighter, and I thought it was pretty awesome. This was before the games started getting extremely technical, and everyone jumped like they were on the moon. I liked playing Akira and Lion. Virtua Fighter Kids is the same game, except the characters were replaced with chibi versions of themselves. Kind of weird to look at as an adult, but this is the version I played the most as a kid.

I played a lot of Mortal Kombat games, but only at a friend's house, since MK was the only fighting game that he liked. I kinda hated it, not only because he was way better at the games than me, but also because I just wasn't a fan of the gratuitous violence. Just never really found it all that entertaining, and that mentality more or less carried into my adulthood (though I tolerate that kind of stuff a lot more now, I still find it stupid, and misses the point of what makes fighting games fun).

I only have vague memories of playing Virtua Fighter IV Evolution, but I remember it being fucking sick. Definitely my favorite in that series. V is cool, too.

Super Smash Bros. is a series I have a VERY long history with, but I barely consider them to be fighting games in the traditional sense, so I don't know how much I should get into them here. Basically, I adore every single game in the series (except Brawl and Smash 4) and Melee in particular is a game I would make passionate love to if I could.

SoulCalbur II is a lot of fun. I remember playing the story mode for days with my boy Raphael. I wanted to get the version where you could play as Link, but understandably, he was only the guest character of the GameCube version, which I never bothered to get into way after I stopped caring so much about SC. I had the PS2 version instead, where the guest character was Heihachi from Tekken. I never really got into Tekken, but I still own every Tekken game for some reason.

My first foray into Street Fighter was the Anniversary Collection for PS2, which had every single version of Street Fighter II (at the time), as well as Street Fighter III: Third Strike, which currently stands as my favorite fighting game of all time. I love this game to bits, even though I can't play it for shit. I just think it's beautiful in every way.

Sonic Gems has Sonic the Fighters in it, which is pretty dope for what it is.

PS1 had this really cool 3D fighter called Ehrgeiz: God Bless the Ring which featured a handful of Final Fantasy VII characters as guests + had a bonus dungeon crawler mode which probably wasn't very good, but I still enjoyed it.

Street Fighter IV was the first fighting game that I took seriously and wanted to get good at, because I had finally found friends on the Internet who wanted to play it with me. Lots of memories of this one. I followed all the big tournaments and had my favorite top players. It gets a bad rap, but I think the game deserves more praise for basically reviving the entire genre of fighting games and making them cool again with the advent of high speed Internet streaming and whatnot.

Street Fighter x Tekken was an embarrasing mess that I'm sad I paid money for.

Street Fighter V is the last traditional fighting game I got into. Sadly, it's not great. I tried my VERY best to love the game, but the game is simply unlovable. It has lovable aspects, and it had a lot of potential, but Capcom is basically the worst company ever and I hate them so much for refusing to fix this hot mess.

Never got into any gay anime fighters because they suck and are gay.
Never got into Marvel vs. Capcom, because I prefer to actually know what's going on during fights.
Never got into Injustice because it's ass.
Never got into the new Killer Instinct because fuck Xbox.
Never got into Skullgirls because it's trash.
Never got into King of Fighters which I kinda regret, it looks cool, but there's so many games.
Never got into DoA for obvious reasons.
Never really gave a shit about Street Fighter Alpha, I only like the main series.
Pokkén was a huge disappointment; I wanted it to be a 2D fighter.
PlayStation All Stars was a joke.

Goodness gracious, great balls of lightning!
Started with Killer Instinct Gold on the N64. My mains were Fulgore and Tusk. My older brother kicked my ass all the time with Spinal and Jago and I could never beat him. He landed Ultra Combos all the time and made it look easy.

Never owned the original Smash Bros but my older cousin had it and we'd always play it at family gatherings. Samus was the first character I ever played in Smash because she stood out from the rest of the cast because super cool space armor. Watching my older brother and cousins face each other back then was like watching an esports tournament through my 4-year old eyes at the time.

Didn't play any more fighting games until the PS2 days when Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain, if WWE games count. I'd keep playing those year after year up until Smackdown vs Raw 2009. We had WWF No Mercy on our N64 but the cartridge for that game was notorious for malfunctioning so we didn't have much time invested with that game but I remember it being super fun and absolutely ridiculous.

My older brother was a fan of boxing so we got Fight Night Round 2 on our PS2. My brother mastered the game and once again just like Killer Instinct, I could never beat him at this one. Still a super fun game and I wish they'd bring these games back.

The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.
Tekken 7 if that wasnt obvious. We've always had Tekken in our family but it was always a party game to me until T7 hit steam. So me and my friend bought it and started to get into it.

Im not as dedicated as id like to be for a couple of reasons.
1. T7 lacks a proper VS CPU practice mode
2. I picked Bryan as my main who is one of the harder characters to play
3. Online is full of cheese

To elaborate on #2, my friend mains Law who has much better fundamentals. Most importantly a down forward 2 which is a launcher that Bryan doesnt have. Bryans highest damage is locked behind highly technical counter hits and inputs.

Thats not to say Bryan is a bad character, he is one of the best but requires a lot more from the player than most other characters. Wall damage is high and Bryan is the only character that can go through blocks.

Right now I'm playing a lot of Melty Blood against other people, it's first fighting game I've considered learning seriously. Have been played around a 1,5 month actively, since I've obtained good internet and wire, but picked up it somewhere in the end of last year. At that time I didn't have wire, so I spent most time practicing instead.

Before that I (tried) to play Skullgirls, I had wire, but my internet was bad and my laptop had rough time running it. Skullgirls taught me most of basics of fighting games tho. I was messing up a bit with Guilty Gear too.

When I was a kid, I played Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and TMNT: Tournament Fighters on a russian NES clone. Guess from those 3 TMNT sticked to me most, because Street Fighter on NES was just simply bad and I didn't have Mortal Kombat carthridge for long enough.

Shit I notice is brain activity. The difference between a bot and a person is pretty much nonexistent in the lower levels, but when you get higher up it's about learning patterns then countering then when they counter you if you can't counter that or respond you'll lose the match. Of course there are other tactics and shit involved like how it's super hard to hit people who don't have any intention of fighting back

Oh yeah, I played Brawlhalla for a short period of time like 2-3 years ago I think? I played mostly as knight guy with spear, always liked to mash his spin move (2somebutton or in regular notation down.somebutton), also his air spear pokes is kinda neat.

Edit: I played as Orion.

‘The most inoffensive user on this website’ - Verbatim
I have very limited experience with traditional fighters. The most I've played is a few casual SFV tournaments and understandably wasn't competitive.

Smash Bros. is my jam though. Melee in particular. I do tend to go for some incredibly hard reads and big punishes when it isn't necessary/optimal and get absolutely fucked for it. I've come to rely all too much on Ganon's sheer power and his stupidly quick/powerful jab to get me out of a whiff punish. It does save me a lot, but I'm better off just not misspacing Aerials lol. I'm dabbling in a bit of Falco to try and add a few skills to my repertoire as well as give me a better character option since Ganon is lower mid tier, though he's still my best character since I dropped Sheik.

In 64 I do a lot better, though most of the players I'm against don't have much experience/practice compared to my competitors in Melee, 4 (when I used to play) and Ultimate. I can straight up cheese people since Mario's Tornado and Super Jump Punch are brain dead at a low level, but I can Zone/edgeguard with him to a degree. In all I'd say my best characters are:
1: 64 Mario
2: Melee Ganon
3: Ultimate Sheik.

I mostly play Tekken 7. Went to EVO, SoCal Regionals. Was supposed to go to Combobreaker, and got really invested in the pro scene. Hung out with a lot of big names. It was neat.

Yeah, she's quite boring. I want to learn H moon with all her knife loops, but I didn't have time to do so, cause work and deadlines. I also think I'm not good enough to pick her up, but I probably never be good enough, so I going to try to learn her when I get time.
