Ilberd did nothing wrong.

Ilberd barely escapes from his homeland and what does he see for the next twenty years? Absolute decay, not only from his fellow countrymen but also the rest of Eorzea. Ishgard has its thumb up its own ass and doesn't have the resources supposedly to help out the alliance but supposedly has the resources to fight a thousand year war against dragons that they themselves started (Archbishop Thordan VII did nothing wrong also BTW but that's a post for another time). Gridania is a bunch of hippies who think tree magic will halt the Empire, Ul'dah is run by a fucking toddler letting Jew potatoes literally milk everyone dry (including Ala Mhigan refugees), and the Lominsans are a bunch of godless heathen degenerates who literally start all their own problems and beg for the warrior of light to save them every time.

Ilberd claims that his own people have become complacent. "They'll spout the words but they wont spill the blood!" he's absolutely right. His own people who are supposed to be proud worshipers of a God that can break worlds but will only do shit if the coin is good enough, otherwise they just sit around and get drunk all day and just pray someone else does the dirty work for them. And the Eorzean Alliance isn't any better. People are supposedly """suffering""" on the other side of Baelsar's Wall in Gyr Abania and they'd rather just pretend the Empire doesn't actually exist. They only took over the wall and declared war on Garlemald because Ilberd had to force their hand. If he hadn't done anything the Alliance would literally be doing absolutely nothing and think the Empire has no subjugation plans for Eorzea at all, even with the Emperor making it clear he'll take them over soon enough.

"B-But he summoned Shinryu!" yeah, because no one was doing ANYTHING to help save people. What other choice did he have left, the Scions were doing nothing, the alliance was doing nothing, his own countrymen were doing nothing, it was literally just him trying to liberate his homeland. He needed SOMETHING. The Scions are a bunch of absolute hypocrites trying to look down on him from an unjustified moral high horse when they have let people become slaves to the Empire for TWENTY YEARS.

Literally no one is morally superior to Ilberd. They're all a bunch of spineless hypocrites waiting for trouble to go away on its own and when they get slapped in the face with a problem they could have prevented they play the victim. Ilberd gets a free pass from being a villain cause everyone else in the story is ethically worse in comparison.

The Didact literaly would have stopped the flood and gotten rid of the pest that Humanity is if the Librarian hadn't stopped him.
