The initial stages of the private beta are completely free of charge.
PSNOW has a sub fee instead now though.

I doubt there is much point signing up for it though (for me) because we don't have fibre optic yet <.<

Yeah, I do remember <.<
I just don't feel like playing a game via streaming if there is going to be noticeable latency.
