Ocarina of Time I already have, and both it and Majora's Mask apparently don't run nearly as well on GC as N64.

I also already have Wind Waker for the time being.

And I don't see myself playing anything prior to OoT in the series. It's just too old for me to devote that much time towards. Plus, they're apparently really difficult.

i remember getting stuck quite often as a kid, but i haven't actually played much of it since then

that's really where all the "difficulty" in zelda games lie (except zelda ii)--there are times where you just get completely stuck

just try to force yourself not to use guides, though--it's so much more gratifying to figure shit out yourself

I'll admit I haven't played it in over 5 years and the only difficult part is maybe a few of the last dungeons but the main thing is getting lost in certain parts.

GameCube has arrived and been set up correctly. I tested Wind Waker to make sure it works. I'm trying to get some of my friends to part ways with their old stuff. So far, I've been able to get Lego Star Wars 2 for $15, 2 controllers for $20, Mario Party 6 and Need for Speed: Underground for another $20. So tomorrow, if all goes well, I'll have 2 more games (I'm getting Mario Party 6 for a steal -- it's $60 on Amazon ATM) and two more controllers.

Well I mean.......ya know.......when my grandpa bought Majora's Mask and it came with the pack.
Good thing I kept my N64's over the years; I didn't have to buy the console, realize I was missing something, then buy something else.

The 64 Disc Drive (IIRC there's no emulator for it either) was a Japan-only release with 15,000 units shipped, and had like 8-10 games, some of which worked to expand on existing games. You can pick one up for between $750 and $2,500 online.

If you find a few slots on the bottom of an old Nintendo Console that you never used and wondered about, chances are they were intended to have a Disc Drive plug in to the bottom.

So I got Mario Party 6, a 007 game, and two controllers today for $40. They all work fine, but there's some issue with the Z button being difficult to press. I don't see it being much of an issue in any game but Melee. What does that button do in that game?

On the way, I have Shrek Superslam and Ultimate Spider-man getting shipped to my house. As soon as Melee drops in price, I'm picking it up. Can't justify a $100 purchase ATM, and I have loads of time and games to play before I need to rely on Melee.

You can still shield grab.

It's a much worse option against real players (because it's very punishable), but a decent option against CPUs.

If push comes to shove, I can just shell out some more money for working controllers. I plan on getting as good as possible at Smash, so a functioning controller is probably going to be a high-priority for me.

But I've yet to play with these "broken" Z buttons. TBlocks and I are hanging out tomorrow to play some Melee, so I'll test it then. I don't know how responsive they actually are.
