Last few days to get that sweet, sweet FM before AE drops on the 16th.

To-do:
☑ General Story 100% (Normal and Extra)
☑ Character Story (all 28 characters)
☑ Easy Survival (all 28 characters)

☐ Hard Survival (0 out of 28 characters)
☐ Extreme Survival (0 out of 28 characters)

☑ Demonstrations (Vol. 1 and Vol. 2; Beginner, Intermediate, Expert, and all Character Guides)

I can probably do Survival on normal with every other character, but realistically, I'm only going to beat Hard and Extreme once.

It seems like Sakura's going to be free to play for a week after she gets released, which is nice.

Also, Zeku is fun as hell.

reminder that previous owners of SFV get all of AE's content for free via patch

capcom living up to their promise, kind of

Sakura is free to play for a week, all characters have been rebalanced, and all single-player methods of obtaining FM are now gone (but you can still level up your characters to gain FM just fine).

I'm not home yet so I haven't had a chance to evaluate all the new features, but I'll be sure to do so for the two people who care.

Impressions:

- Sakura's fun. Her redesign is fucking awesome, and her character story is probably one of my new favorites. I like that she's kinda growing up a little bit and questioning whether fighting is really what she wants to do with her life.

- UI and menu changes are a nice change of pace. I like the platinum gold aesthetic.

- The new Arcade Mode, while LONG overdue, is an obvious welcome addition, even if they took an unorthodox route with it. The worst thing is that you don't get anything substantial out of doing it, but I like how they've actually confirmed in-game when each and every installment of the franchise actually takes place chronologically. I'm pretty sure they haven't done that before. Best of all, unlike the shitty art in the character intros, the art featured in each character's ending is much higher quality.

- Extra Battle is fucking stupid, as it turns out. There are two battles available right now: a single round fight against Shin Akuma that costs 1000 FM per attempt, where all you gain is a special title for winning, is absolutely batshit insane. The AI just relentlessly tears your asshole apart, and while I was eventually able to beat him (after wasting more FM on it than I'm willing to admit), to know that all I'm getting out of it is a title makes it one of the biggest wastes of time ever. The second Extra Battle is an ongoing one where the final prize is a Viewtiful Joe costume for Rashid. Hopefully these things get better with time.

- I'm liking all the balance changes and the gameplay in general feels a lot smoother. Not all of the new V-triggers seem all that useful, but some of them are actually pretty fun and exciting, and it'll be cool to see how the new meta will develop with them in the cards. Also, the game's input lag has been reduced to about 4 frames, which is fantastic. This wound up adding a lot of lag to netplay at first, but they patched that up rather quickly.

Update on the extra battles thing: the first one left a horrible first impression, but the new ones haven't been so bad at all. The latest one (which ended recently) gave you three 500 FM attempts to defeat a golden Shadaloo soldier for a 2500 FM award, which could be attained multiple times for a maximum profit of 6000 FM. That's actually pretty solid, and I hope the rest of the Extra Battles follow this model.

Future extra battles are slated to contain some Monster Hunter-themed outfits for Ken, Ibuki, and Mika.







My favorite costumes tend to be the ones that render your character unrecognizable, so these are pretty cool.

And he looks every bit as bad as he did in 4.

But hey, at least we seem to be getting new characters every month now. That's actually hype as fuck. So the FM I would've grinded for Blanka can now be spent on Falke, assuming she's next.

new patch dropping on the 3rd

balrog and cammy seem relatively unchanged by my deductions, but the changes to rog's v-trigger 2 seem very fun to mess around with—he can combo into the throw now, something only zangief has been able to do
