The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.

Nexus releases fuckloads of broken mods. I really dig the 24 hour trial period for the mods, especially given the track record for mod creators to release broken or incompatible mods and just ignore it from there.

Nexus doesn't release anything other than their mod manager which is superior to workshops system in every way. People upload their stuff and people can download it. There's no curating process.

Compatibility issues are always either in the readme or description of any mod that's decent. It's your fault if something doesn't work because you didn't read the readme or description. If said mod doesn't have either then its your fault for not using common sense and not downloading it.

And then there's also the fact that you know, it's free and not being sold to you.

You also still have to pay for the mod. You just have 24 hours to get a refund that will take Valve 2-3 days to give you in the form of Steam dollars. So you don't actually get your money back. If a mod you paid for fucks up your game you basically don't get any compensation for it.

It's not about Valve. Nexus or ModDB could do the same thing and I'd still think it's a good idea to let creators charge for their work if they choose.

Compatibility issues are always either in the readme or description of any mod that's decent. It's your fault if something doesn't work because you didn't read the readme or description. If said mod doesn't have either then its your fault for not using common sense and not downloading it.

At this point you're arguing just to be confrontational. This entire paragraph is bullshit and you know it. I'm not talking about fault or blame; it's not a big deal for a mod to be broken or incompatible with other mods. Shit happens. All I said is that I appreciate the ability to refund the mod if it doesn't work the way you expect.

Only it isn't because it's true. I currently have over 123 mods downloaded/installed and every single one of them comes with a readme and information on their mod pages regarding incompatibilities and requirements.

And it is your fault if you have incompatibilities since everything that's decent will have that information listed in either its readme or description page. You're talking about how Nexus has a bunch of mods that are incompatible with eachother as if its some sort of negative. That should be expected since thats kind of the nature of modding. If two different mods affect the same thing then you're going have them conflict.

And you aren't being refunded. Valve is keeping your money.

How is this not a legal nightmare? <.<

I mean mods on nexus get DMCA'd by butthurt users and they aren't for profit at all. Unless all the copyright holders suddenly lost interest in gangraping modders for funsies, this is going to be a right bloodbath.

The developers have to agree to it, I think. No chance of copyright issues.

That doesn't stop the fact that a shit ton of mods use assets from other mods and there are mods being sold right now that require SKSE. If the SKSE team wanted to they could get all of those mods pulled and basically kill Valves entire platform since most of the best mods rely on it.

However even if the SKSE team did make a claim it's not like valve would give a fuck. Greenlight is filled with blatant copies and ripoffs of other games.

Introducing New Ways to Support Workshop Creators
The Steam Workshop has always been a great place for sharing mods, maps, and all kinds of items that you've created. Now it's also a great place for selling those creations.

With a new, streamlined process for listing and selling your creations, the Steam Workshop now supports buying mods directly from the Workshop, to be immediately usable in game.

Discover the best new mods for your game and enable the creators to continue making new items and experiences.

Starting with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Bethesda Game Studios has a history of providing strong support for user modifications in their games. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has continued that tradition, adding a comprehensive editor and integration with the Steam Workshop back in 2012. There are now well over 24,000 free mods available for Skyrim via the Steam Workshop, adding everything from new soundscapes to epic multi-hour quests, to tweaks that perfect the reflections on water.

With the launch of paid mods in Skyrim, you can now support mod authors that are creating top quality items and amazing new experiences for your game.
I'm all for capitalism, but this is a horrible idea.  Most high profile modders are making their workshop items pay-what-you-want after the initial backlash, which is good, but for mods like Wet & Cold the only way to get the latest update is through the Steam Workshop, which offers no in-depth file management (load order, merge patches, etc.).

Fuck me.

There should at least be a "try before you buy" option, because they're mods, they might not always work, and it's the internet, there are greedy shitbags out there.

There's a 24 hour trial period, and refunds are through the Steam wallet.

Yeah, that's amateur third-party DLC, not modding.  That definitely won't last, because not many modders are going to want to lose popularity by associating themselves with greedy shitheads.  People aren't going to want their asses widened for releasing broken garbage, either.  The only people I think deserve any money are the people who make modded content comparable to AAA quality, and even then, I think they should only be allowed to advertise donations.

Gonna make some dank-ass mods and then sell them for $.

I can see this have some pretty negative consequences. Might have been better to just give paid publishing rights to modders who have proven themselves and are significant / skilled contributors. I could see this resulting in a ton of people with little to no skills flooding the marketplace with poorly done mods just because they can't resist the "omg I might get money" factor.
:^)
