You were in the Animus, a simulation game thing and then you got out of it. Basically you're playing as a guy playing a game.

You're an employee in a machine called The Animus, you're going through a simulation in the Kenway bloodline, specifically Edward Kenway, A pirate who stole an assassins gear, and you differ from those two.

It's basically like playing as Desmond in the old games, but you cant see your character this time.

The AC games are all about seeing your ancestors through machines that interface with your DNA to solve some Illuminati-type BS through Greek gods. It's a pretty retarded story that tries to tie all their games together, and it's best that you just ignore it.

Honestly, I only got the game because we haven't had a good pirate game since Sid Meier's Pirates.
