I got Diamond in a Playlist I did worse in, and Platinum in the other one. I think it's broken....

I think it goes Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond, Platinum, Onyx, Champion.

Once you reach a new tier, there are 4 levels that are decided by how many wins you get. If you're Platinum 4 and you win some more games, you'll be Onyx. You can never go back a tier (for example, Gold -> Silver if you lose), but you can go down ranks (for example, Silver 4 -> Silver 2 if you lose).

Only the top 200 players in the world can be Champion, though.

SWAT and free for all seem really easy to get placed high.  I let my friends play half my placement games going negative or barely positive and I still got Onyx.

Seems broken to me, my brother who goes negative every game got put into Onyx while I got Platinum and I'm usually the mvp

Tiers bronze-diamond have six ranks each. Get past rank 6 of a tier to advance onto the next one. Based on w/l

After diamond 6 you rank up to onyx and later champion. These are based on raw skill and personal performance. Top 200 = Champ Top couple thousand = Onyx
