the one true God is Doctor Doom and we should all be worshiping him.
Why can the Covenant speak English, and why do they? Especially during battle?
IIRC in Halos 2 & 3 the explanation was real-time translation provided by Chief's suit. In Halo 5 it's apparently to show that Jul M'dama is losing grip of his forces and they're protesting him by speaking the humans' language.

But I don't think that explains the aliens simply lacking the physiology to speak English. (Four mouth flaps with teeth doesn't seem practical in any universe, but it's better to not think about these things >.>)
Some Sangheili can speak English, and do so by pressing their mandibles together to form "lips". The Arbiter is one example, I believe Jul M'dama is another.
Neat, I didn't think of that.

...But wait, do they have tongues?
That I do not know.

They have trouble with a few human letters though.

F and P give them some difficulty.

That while 'Fillis' thing was a reference to Red vs Blue, if anyone cares. I found it interesting.

Honestly, that sounds bogus.

Traviss doesn't do her fucking research.

Are you telling me that she'd write a Halo novel without looking at the source material, but she'd make a reference to a somewhat obscure series outside the Halo fanbase? That seems a little far fetched.

Yes. Halo 4 concept art shows that they have a tongue. When they aren't using it, it's inside their neck rather than in their mouth.

It also has a tube in it like a big straw and that's how they can drink.

Very alien, very practical for them.
