VR technology can only improve the more we experiment with it, so I don't really mind it.

It could easily move past the "gimmick" stage. It won't happen soon, and it won't happen with PS VR, but still.

I don't understand the cynicism regarding that.

I think virtual reality is probably the most important development out there in the entertainment industry.

Just the possibilities.

You could have a perfect driving simulator, where you could learn to drive without having to fear getting in a crash.
Go to a music concert--experience your favorite band playing live, without having to deal with the drunk idiots around you.
Can't get laid because you're a disgusting pedophile or whatever? Indulge in your fantasies with VR. No one's hurt.

VR might actually be the most important development of all, if I were to think about it. This is way out to lunch, but if they fine tuned it so that it could perfectly simulate everything our world does and more, and gave people the ability to control it to their liking, then feasibly, I don't see anything wrong with it.

It would be a way to drastically reduce all of our shortcomings. You can't neccessarily change human nature. But, you can certainly indulge it in a padded bubble wrap sort of fashion.
