For the story?  No.
The movement/combat is fluid, and the wilderness is pretty entertaining to run through.  It's not an amazing game, but considering the overhauls it made to the series, it's a pretty decent entry.

The thing about 3 is that it's a mixed bag through and through. The quality of mission design can fluctuate wildly from decent to bad, with very few occasional highlights. Most of the game just isn't memorable.
Gameplay is solid but bland - if you learned how to counter, you are already set for the rest of the game, since no enemy requires you to do anything else.
Purely going by gameplay, 4 uses everything that 3 introduced (minus a neglegible hunting feature), and improved and expanded on it.

A review I watched said he thought the story for 3 was great and that Black Flag is tedious and boring.

It's just the history of America meets Hollywood movie direction, tbh.

You shouldn't let him bum you down for you enjoying the game considering lemon thinks the iterative movies Telltale Games pumps out are games.
