It "died" after Tactics for a while. Honestly after Fallout 2, it didn't have any strong releases until Bethesda bought them out and pushed out Fallout 3. I mean, there WAS that PS2 game, but no one ever talks about that.

So yeah, it was dead for 10 years. 1998 Fallout 2 released, and 2008 was Fallout 3. Almost poetic seeing as they made it 200 years after the bombs.

i think the appeal is in the pseudohistorical aspects of the setting and the art style. i remember i actually really liked just running around and exploring damascus in AC1. i cant imagine why anyone would want to play them for the actual gameplay or story though. blegh.

AC really blew up after Assassins Creed 2, which was handled expertly well. The series really tanked once AC3 hit, and while AC4 was arguably the best one in the series, it just got worse after 3 as a whole. Games plagued with glitches and all that, the story with Desmond was handled piss poorly.

See the problem was, AC games really were building up to the 2012 thing at the time, and leading up to Desmond saving the world. In AC3 he DID do that, but it was handled so horribly with his story, that it's not even worth mentioning. Now we're just left with this Templar vs Assassin thing again, with this antagonist god like woman who's just kinda around the world, but not really doing anything yet.

Basically a way to drag the modern story around. That and after Desmond died (spoilers?), an entire cast just went out the window. So while you have this past thing going well, that's about it. No strong lead modern cast.

Your understand is kinda wrong, considering the last one released (Link Between Worlds) got rave reviews. The others have just been remakes of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask coming to fill the gap between the new one on the horizon.

Twilight Princess got rave reviews and fans loved it though. It may not be the best one ever but it's a very strong outing. Skyward Sword was the one I know that wasn't the strongest, but that's it.

That's not what 2.5D means. 2.5D means that it's 3D rendering but gameplay is restricted to a two-dimensional plane. Street Fighter IV is 2.5D; ALBW uses 2.5D and 3D gameplay. You have as much control during 3D segments as you would in Majora's Mask, the only difference is that the camera is overhead instead of behind Link.

That's a bit pedantic. Two-dimensional gameplay means that your movement options are restricted left-right, whereas 3D uses compass directions (front-right-back-left, with between like front-right and back-left in most games since the 5th gen)

Never seen it not counted as a 3D. I've seen it excluded from the Zelda cycle because it's a handheld, and people like to only count console games when talking about Zelda for some reason. Probably because it shows that the cycle is a lot of balogna.
