If you're not doing hardcore mode in New Vegas you're playing the game wrong.

But they aren't that much of a challenge. Especially when you use the adrenaline injector on Dead Money and it breaks the sleep meter so you don't have to sleep again.

And like you said with broken things, I find you're just too weak and the enemies are too strong (talking about vanilla), and fast travel is just absolutely broken and annoying.
