I do not remember hating this song as a kid, and usually I get nostalgic over the old school themes, but this one aged terribly.

I don't think it's as much about ageing badly and more about just being a shitty discordant tune in the first place.

It's too crowded for me, all the notes seem to be overlapping the others and it just seems noisy.

I think it can if it gets a bad connotation. Like Blow Me Away with shitty halo 3 montages in 120p using that generic Halo font.

I mean, the song isn't terrible by itself (Not to say it's brilliant, just alright, not shit) It just has a really bad connotation because of its' usage.

Music can definitely age poorly--but yeah, I'm struggling to think of a game with music that hasn't aged well.

You'll find that the earliest of tinny synthpop songs from the 70s sound incredibly dated by today's standards, because we've found so many better ways to make a crisper sound with electronic instruments. But in general, video game music is kinda timeless. If it sounds bad, it probably always sounded bad.
