Nvidia, with the 1070 literally within fingertips of consumers, and the 970 being out, there is literally no reason to go AMD right now other than being spiteful against Nvidia.

970 is pretty good. you'll be able to run pretty much all modern games at max settings for at least a year maybe three if you're lucky. depends on what type of games you want to play though, because some games are more processor intensive than gpu intensive, so if you want truly good all around performance, get a strong processor too.
