Pokémon: White 2 playthrough (Currently: Movie Star/3rd gym)

So I beat the 2nd gym very easily. Went without a hitch
Now i'm onto Pokéstar Studios and to Castelia City....I JUST noticed that Pokéstar Studios is a reference to the Movie industry in the US...i'm dumb.

Ah yes, I think I downloaded a copy of Pokemon Black when I first built my PC in 2011. I didn't even care that it was in Japanese and got stuck in that town with the first Gym. Kept playing, searching for a way to continue and ended up leveling my starter outrageously high before I could continue. Same thing happened just before the desert so now I have a level 45 Serperior and I'm pretty sure I've only beaten 4 Gyms, 5 max.

Yeash, that makes zero sense, when I played Black it was completely normal progression.

IIRC, there were parts where you had to talk to a specific person to progress, or something of that manner.
