Nice that you're playing it, but get ready to be disappointed by the "story". It pales in comparison to Black and White 1, which is the only Pokemon game to really HAVE a story.

Making it the best Pokémon you have because it's the one in the first slot. Arcanine was a good asset to my team. Can't remember the place where you can get a Fire Stone, but I think it was a long while after the area it can be caught.
