What's up with all the Pokemon threads lately?

20th anniversary's coming up on the 27th, and it's expected that something big will be announced then.

So, here's what I'm expecting:

Basically, Pokémon Z. But it's not going to be your usual lazy third installment. They're going to spice it up somehow.

If you're like me, you noticed that Generation VI was noticeably lacking in the new Pokémon department. We were only given about 70 new Pokémon to catch--the lowest there has ever been for any new generation, so it seemed like half of it was missing, and it left a lot of us rather cold.

So I think Pokémon Z, for the first time ever, is going to give us the other half. That's right--I expect to see 50-100 brand new Pokémon for Gen VI. It won't be the "seventh" generation, mind you--it'll be the second half of the sixth generation. Why would they do this?

Well, like I said--they're very aware that people are getting tired of the old Pokémon formula. Having us buy two of the same game is insulting enough--but a third? People are getting tired of it, and Game Freak knows that. That's why they never came out with Pokémon Grey, and instead gave us Black 2 and White 2, which were not your typical "third installments" at all--they were direct sequels that took place well into the future of the original Black and White, and expanded upon Gen V's story. It was something new.

That's the only way they know they're going to be able to get people hype over a new Pokémon rehash--they have to take risks and try new things, to prevent people from getting fed up with their bullshit (because a lot of us already are).

And what better way to derive hype than to have Pokémon Z be not only a direct sequel to X & Y, but have a whole bunch of new Pokémon to collect, as well? People would go fucking insane. And like I've been saying, it makes perfect sense, because of the utter dearth of new Pokémon this past generation.

Additionally, there's one more thing that makes me pretty certain that I'm right:

Nobody is expecting this to happen.

Which is precisely why you should expect it to happen. Think about it--Pokémon has been doing nothing but bending expectations lately with X & Y. When Sylveon was leaked, people were wondering--what type is it? Normal? Bug? ...Poison? ...Maybe a new type? Fewer people were expecting it to be a brand new type than not, yet it ended up being the case. It was obvious what they were doing from the start, really--Why would they introduce this new Pokémon, an Eeveelution from a new generation, and NOT reveal its type, if it wasn't going to be a new type?

Likewise--why would they wait until JUST BEFORE the 20th anniversary of Pokémon to announce that they're holding a direct for the series if it wasn't going to be something mind-blowing? It's gotta be something crazy. Imagine how disappointed people would be if it turned out that Pokémon Z was just going to be another plain old rehash. That would be stupid as fuck.

So, yeah--I'm expecting the unexpected here, and I'm very confident that I'm at least somewhat right. We'll see what happens.

I don't think they would announce Generation VII, but I... guess it's possible. I'm not expecting that, though, because that would be a major stray from the formula. They've never not expanded upon the current generation before--so to skip out on it entirely would be way unprecedented, and more than I'd be willing to bet on.

I hope so, and they can adress a few things like Volcanion being hinted at in Lumiose City.

A return to Kalos would be cool, like how B/W2 had you start off in a completely new town and work your way from a different direction.

Still, some others are convinced it's Gen VII.
