I remember watching my brother play through Re: Chain Of Memories on the PS2 and he hated every fucking second of it. But he also praises KH2 as one of the greatest games ever made, his tastes are very....unique.

I liked KH1 and 2 as a child and I thought the whole "light and darkness" stuff was super deep when I was in middle school. Coming back to it as an adult made me realize how dumb I was. Still, fond memories. Used to be obsessed with making gummi ships in KH2 to the point where people at school would give me their memory card so I could build them something. Had this notebook with graph paper where I'd draw blueprints and shit. I think for the time it was pretty good graphics and gameplay-wise, but this is the PS2 era we're talking about. The Final Mixes from what I understand don't do anything to remaster the graphics besides upscaling and changing some colors for some reason. This is the closest you'll ever see me come to anime, btw.
When it comes to the gummi ships, there are definitely some things you just tolerate more or just like more as a child. The appeal isn't the same when I come back to it now, but I think maybe it's because it was also the first game where I could not just fly, but also build a spaceship. So 9-13 year old me thought it was the coolest shit ever. Same thing goes for the light/dark stuff lmao, it was very fake pseudo-deep but it tried to be profound in a way I hadn't been exposed to before.

Seize all hearts and consummate the great heart. All hearts to be one, one heart to encompass all. Realize the destiny: the realm of Kingdom Hearts. The great darkness sealed within the great heart. Progeny of darkness, come back to the eternal darkness. For the heart of light shall unseal the path. Seven hearts, one Keyhole, one key to the door. The door of darkness, tied by two keys. The door to darkness to seal the light. None shall pass but shadows, returning to the darkness. One born of the heart and darkness, hunger for every heart until the dark door opens."

YouTubeAlso, how can you watch cutscenes like this without getting chills? For every dumb Goofy/Donald moment, there's a moment like this.
or if it did, it didn't need to be so boooooring

Just beat the 3rd game. Didn't bother with any of the filler between 2 and 3 because I honestly don't care, but watched a few summary vids.
Also all the flashbacks in the old graphics, seriously? Couldn't even redo those to match the new graphics? lazy mfers
