The Spartan games and the remasters don't really count and the Wars games aren't main series.

ODST and Reach aren't main series either.

They definitely won't rewrite the plot (sadly) if when it happens.

The leat they can do is add some more terminals, explaining what the fuck Truth was up to te entire time, or where Rally Point War was.

And having terminals that talks about the Arbiters actions or a side story where you play as him when he's gone most of the time. Also for Truth it would be nice to know why he didn't bring a single human with him to the Ark when he knows he needed one.

They'd probably flesh out Usze and N'tho tbh, it'd be nice to have them appear as allies at the canonical points (like I think Hunters in the Dark mentioned that they were present during the assault on the Citadel)

I wish that 4-player co-op was the canon version of Halo 3.

I think they'd do well if they did multiple stories like H2A. A couple about N'tho and Usze, a couple about Truth's retardedness and maybe one for the Cortana Level just about Cortana on HC. Maybe an adaption of Human Weakness or something.
