How does the gameplay or story differ from other Japanese hack and slash games like DMC? The combat looks identical.
It's the same guys that did Metal Gear Rising/Bayonetta, so just silky smooth gameplay and lots of action. We know literally nothing about the story other than the universe in which it's set by the other Nier/Drakenguard games.

Doesn't really sound like my thing, but I'll keep an eye on it.

As far as the gameplay goes? It doesn't, really.

If you didn't like MGR or Bayonetta from a gameplay perspective, odds are you wouldn't like this.

Didn't play either. I did play the DMC series (reboot excluded), but I'm not a huge fan of the genre.

I wasn't a fan of DMC either but loved MGR. I'd say watch some gameplay of that and make your decision.

You're not going to enjoy the gameplay if you don't enjoy fast paced hack'nslash

I wouldn't compare it to MGR, but its just because it Platinum games, so if you like their work, you might enjoy it

Monster reply of all monsters
I'm glad you took the time to check it out, I'll write my reply and talk about my thoughts too.

You'll probably be surprised how much I agree (Maybe?)

It is 2AM though so it may be a bit sloppy.

This is a pretty good look on the demo, I do find myself agreeing with a fair bit- being

Quote
I thought I liked 2B's design--and on paper, I still kinda do. But what I didn't like is how much the camera seems to like her design, and how much it seems to think we, as an audience, aren't quite getting enough out of it. Sorry, game, I don't need to have these brief yet candid glimpses at her exposed thighs to see that she does indeed have exposed thighs, thank you very much. To quote 2B herself, "It's not necessary."

I really like her design too, I actually really like Taro's designs in general, but he;s always had a way of making some skin-showing beauties, I guess its just what he likes- I mean; he is Japanese so no surprise there. The camera being pushed away I dont seem to be a problem, like I don't agree it's unnecessary in its own right, but what I find stupid is why do that when people found a way to get past that, you can indeed look up her skirt.
Quote
You know what else isn't necessary? This shit. Apparently, if you manage to pan the camera directly under 2B's skirt, she'll briskly push it away. I'm actually not entirely sure how to feel about that. On one hand, it's a clever way to discourage doing silly shit like that--but on the other hand... is it really discouraging it? The developers gave her an ass and panties to look at. They're there in the game. If anything, having 2B be self-aware enough to know when the player is checking her out is a subtle way of making her even more sexually alluring, making it seem less like subtle discouragement and more like blatant encouragement.

Ladders everyone. The biggest problem I have with it is its not the design I hate, not the fact she's and extremely pretty character, for a robot. -It's the response.

You have this many pages of her alone, and half of that was after two days, and its porn. Or its her arse out. True enough, its the designs fault for making it, but its just so crazy that its not even out already. And we're only getting to the images of her being pinned down by robots. So I got you on that, I like the design but its promoting something that's just eye rolling, of course, in its own nature, its just people admiring her in a weird way.

Quote
And 2B's supposed to be an android, right? Why does she need panties? Why does she have breasts? Why does she need to wear that dress, or that hairstyle? What is the practical, robotic purpose of her ladylike hip swivel during her walking animation? Why is she female to begin with?
The answer here is Yoko Taro.

The gameplay I loved, I felt the frsh feeling of having another fast-paced hack and slash, with its own little spin (the camera going to platform and over head) being a Nier thing to begin with, I found no trouble with the gameplay, but that;s probably because I knew what was coming. As Aria said, and I agree, the shooting part felt too easy and a little cheap because it got you out of trouble but I honestly feel you can take that way by playing on hard (What I think people should just play)

Quote
I love launching enemies into the air and slashing the shit out of them--I just hope this sort of gameplay doesn't get old too fast in the full game. What I need is more weapons and more ways to attack your enemies. Otherwise, it gets super dry super fast.
I'm confident that its going to have a wide range, they showed off a lot of weapons of different variety and I'm hoping the skill trees are fleshed out and you get to use a lot more, of course the demo does this on purpose, right?

Quote
The graphics are pretty and the music was awesome. The music in particular was probably my favorite thing about the whole thing. I think dramatic organs are very underrated. I could see myself listening to this track in my free time.
100% agree, his picking of composers and music is always great. You might like the first games music too, and Drakengards.

Regarding the whole her emotions going from no emotions to HOLY SHIT THE KID IS DYING in literally minuets, I think its a bad way of saying she's more human than we're lead to believe, the whole typical robots can be human (sometimes more) as humans can be, Rogue One and Titanfall 2 does this. I don't think it'll ruin much from a story perspective, because you'll be with 9S through the game, he's basically going to be the little brother.
Quote
Maybe 2B is a young android who hasn't learned how to keep her emotions fully in check yet, but still understands the tactical importance of doing so
I kind of think so too, or it could just be above.

Overall, I think the game will do well and I think its pretty well designed so I'm excited, it could just be the fanboy in me that thinks it'll fly through well, it has a bigger audience this time and I do expect to see a lot of clashing reviews on it, either way- I'm eager to read about it given I've been into Nier since it came out and its just nice to see its getting bigger, even if that's mostly because of her 'features' At any rate, glad you found some fun and it didnt boggle your mind to the point of wanting to murder Taro.

Yeah, these are pretty nice.

I mentioned liking the graphics, but I didn't really emphasize how much I liked the visual style as well. I have a bad history with Platinum games (haven't enjoyed a single title), but if there's one area where they always seem to deliver for me, it's the visuals. It's very slick, and I like a little bit of steampunk in my life.

I don't think I ever found myself using any of the items I picked up, though... They were just kinda there. I picked up some iron ore, a crystal, and some other things along those lines, but I don't think I ever actually used any of it. What were they for?

It's a rhetorical question--the answer is because they're pandering.

i dont think its pandering if theyre making what they wanted to make

you could argue the same for films that shoehorn in diversity quotas or a character that happened to be gay

or ubisoft and memes for the kids

I completely disagree with your first point--you don't have to be actively pandering to be pandering, and it's still just as bad either way. If not worse. Even if you're right, and it doesn't count as pandering, that doesn't automatically mean I'm okay with it. It's a crude depiction of sexuality. Of course I'm going to have a problem with that--it doesn't matter what the justification is.

Diversity quotas are a problem too. And memes, and any form of pandering whatsoever. It's all bad.

then does that mean you have a problem with things like erotica fiction or action for the sake of action in movies

when people want to make art, authors, musical artists, its cause they are driven by whatever it is they choose to make the topic of, and to the best of the best their craft is almost like instinct that they can create without thinking

people can make what they want to make as well as people can choose what they buy

its impossible to create something good when you have no drive or ambition for it, and for no matter what the subject matter is, the best creators always make for themselves, for sure you can say that some of the greatest painters known throughout history loved to paint things that were considered risque at the time

if you dont like butts in a game thats fine

say someone else didnt like medieval settings, would it be sensible to say that a game that did was just pandering to those who liked medieval games

some people like butts, some people like medieval games, when you create something youre probably not the only person who likes what your work revolves around, there will always be someone to pander to if that

not a good example, but its impossible not to pander if the idea that it could be done unintentionally could be applied to any piece of creative media

Find an example that pertains to the carnal desires of human beings and you'll have a better example. Medieval settings don't do that; sexuality does. Catering to sexual desires is the lowest, cheapest, dirtiest way of getting people's attention--specifically perverted and often misogynistic men. It degrades not just art, but the image of women as a whole in society. It's an insult.

Pandering to anything else isn't as much of an insult, because they don't prey off a core fixation of the human psyche. It's incredibly underhanded and it goes far beyond a simple distaste for it. I want to see a puritan artistic movement that shuns all sexuality, because it's nothing to promote in media. It has no artistic value, and anyone who disagrees is probably just thinking with their reptilian cocks rather than their rational brains.

My biological roots, social conditioning, and sexual orientation have ordained against my own better judgment that I derive a perverse degree of sexual gratification from the female breast and the female ass, yes.

Do I like the concept of that? No. I separate my sexual interests from my lucid interests.

I don't expect you or anyone else to agree with me, but I don't think my outlook is all that controversial or difficult to understand.

good answer

thats fine, i dont agree with it because constraints can make creation difficult, that said some manage better because their interests are just innocent

the pleasure of creation itself is difficult to come by these days, making something unique and enjoying the process lasts the rest of your life when you finally finish a project youve been working tirelessly on for weeks

I don't really view it as a "constraint" really. It's as much a constraint as anything else we feel uncomfortable with showing in movies, shows, or games. That's why we don't really have any toilet scenes that often, where we get to watch the MC take a dump during an off-day. And if there is, we often frown upon it, because it's disgusting.

Now, would you call that a constraint, or is it really kinda nice that we don't really encourage a lot of gross scenes like that in our games and films? I'd say the latter. I think if more movies had scenes like that, you yourself might even have a problem with it.

That's how I view depictions of sexuality. Sex (beyond my own personal reptilian interest in it) is a biological process that's honestly no more glamorous than taking a shit. We want it for no intellectually significant reason other than it gets our dicks hard, or our vaginas wet. It's just sick.

I play movies and watch games (I realize I messed up there, but I'm keeping it that way because it's funny), most of the time, for the messages and the themes, and you have to know how to respond to these messages, because they're not always good or valuable.
