Why would Nintendo release this when the Switch will absorb the DS's market?

They're still making a lot of games for the DS that aren't and won't be on the Switch. And people like me still may buy one soon that never had one. There's a huge library of games.

The DS has games and will continue to have games that aren't anywhere else, even on the Switch.

Pokémon Stars, for one.It just doesn't make sense from a financial standpoint. It's like GM pushing Chevrolet and Pontiac at the same time in the early 2000's: there just isn't enough of a market to go around.
