It's associated with MGS4, so I instinctively find it annoying >.>

Come on, now. I know you didn't realise how shit MGS4 was until you watched matthewmatosis's review.
Actually when I first played it, the whole Zero and friendly companions as TRUE ENEMIES never sat well with me. Ever.

Yeah but you were singing the game's praises before you saw that video.

It's fine. At least you didn't get buttblasted like most people do when you show them how shit the game is.

I feel the games Kojima did exclusive writing for was a meh job. MGS 4 and 5.

And I know he has a lot of fallout with Konami which affected things, but does anyone feel Kojima got kinda up his own ass about his writing skills towards the end?

Him thinking Quiet's reasons for being justified is stupid, and a lot of MGS V's dialogue is terrible seeing as he fired the guy who did the localization for MGS1. He wanted more direct translation, which really made the dialogue suffer if you ask me. I always felt MGS1's dialogue flowed the best.

Does anyone else feel that we had a drastic cut in cutscenes as a big "fuck you" since people (rightly) complained about nearly 8 hours of cutscenes footage for MGS4?
Going opposite end of the spectrum is rarely the answer for anything ever.

Well, Quiet, like many things in MGSV, had a good reasoning/thinking behind it, but was just not executed well. I don't know what Kojima spent all his time doing, but I'm sure he could've been able to do better than he did. Whether it was arrogance, perfectionism, mismanagement, or some combination, something got fucked up. And I struggle to believe you could put the blame on the time restrictions he had.
I think him wanting to go completely open world and abandon a few staples that have been there since the ORIGINAL METAL GEAR kinda messed it up.

I don't care what you say, I feel codec moments (aside from MGS4) had far better flow of dialogue than the cassette tapes ever did.

I've been saying for awhile that the fault with MGSV isn't Konami, it's Kojima. The man had several years to create the game. The Fox Engine makes game development the most user friendly and efficient process it's ever been. You're telling me, that with $80M, 5+ years, and the most powerful engine on the market, you can't tell a story that rivals a PSP game from almost 6 years ago? Not even talking strictly dialogue, simply thematic and narrative creativity.

Kojima is incapable of delegation and prioritisation. I could've made a better game than he did with those circumstances.

And this is coming from the biggest "fan boy" you'll ever meet.

I think my state of mind was, when thinking of MGS 4 I just thought of the good things. When I heard MGS4 I thought Mech fight yeah! Microwave yeah! Old. Snake. sad :(, Ocelot/Snake fight, woah!

Then I got reminded of things I just honestly forgot. I only played the game officially once, and did a no spotted one for stealth.

I honestly think Kojima is more arrogant than we'd like to ever think since he's a treasure in the video game industry. Anyone who disagreed with him was probably shut out because it's "his" series, but sometimes it takes an outside perspective/collaborative effort to do something.

I almost get a George Lucas feel coming from him. Sure it's his series, and he is the reason it got to where it is, but to think everything you did is right? That's just stupid.

"flaming nipple chops"-Your host, the man they call Ghost.

To say, 'nothing is true', is to realize that the foundations of society are fragile, and that we must be the shepherds of our own civilization. To say, 'everything is permitted', is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with their consequences, whether glorious or tragic.

I don't know about the open world, that felt fine to me. The codec moments would've been nicer to have, but I feel like the story just wasn't fleshed out well enough where it needed to be, and sometimes they did flesh it out at necessary points but only through the tapes. Not saying it was bad they did it in the tapes, just that in cutscenes or something would've been nicer, but I get it was due to time and resources.

I felt open world ruined the pacing of the story because of the implementation of repetitive side missions. Then again, I guess Peace Walker did that too, but the writing was strong. Then again, Peace Walker did the open sections rather than completely open. I feel, like my copy paste comment said a page or so back, that implementing zones as big as Ground Zeroes places would have been far better than just a wide open world that is honestly not filled with many things when going from place to place.

I don't think it was any of these, I just think it was a poor design choice to be the antithesis of MGS 4's codec/cutscenes. He implemented it in Ground Zeroes as well, way before the splitting got bad. He made a design from the get go to do this because of the backlash of 4. Only going to the complete opposite end of the spectrum is NEVER an ideal solution.

As for resources, well... It was a huge budget game. I don't think resources were an issue.

Oh, I thought we were just assuming, sorry it sounded so final. He had so many years to develop. I think it was just a bad choice.

Y'know what I'd like? The ability to re-lock gates and doors. It'd be cool to trip the enemy soldiers up with their own barrier.

This article summed up my problems with this game.
I think once the initial hype dies down, MGS V will go down as a game that should have been, and fucked over life long fans.

Exactly.  I got this game to see the dark, downward spiral of Big Boss.

Spoiler
Not "BB" actually being some random gup we saw for all of five seconds and the only truly dark moment being mission 43.

I didn't mind the twist now that I saw it for myself. I just wish they handled things better and actually showed him turning evil (when in reality he's like... better than Big Boss himself). His troops dying woulda been great, like that article said. Speaking of which

I think Paz was a nice touch. It was the medic's guilty conscience getting at him for not saving someone in his care. He probably drove himself crazy about it thinking how he could have saved her if he'd just been a little more thorough.

Also, I did my own little head canon for a better ending/followup to MG 1.

My own head canon is that the loss of his men, along with Quiet, finally pushed Boss over the edge. He lost so many men, just learned his whole life was a lie, then he lost the girl he "loved". He thus made a promise to himself, vowing to be more powerful or something and not make the same mistake of losing anymore of the people he cared about. Then he gets the call from Big Boss to die like The Boss for "the mission".

Venom says fuck this, and doesn't want his men to die for nothing (at this point he'd be more or less obsessed with getting stronger and not losing anyone. Basically like Miller was with revenge). So he gets the nukes as a deterrent for Big Boss if he tries anything, thinking this will make him stronger. He's already not in 100% state of mind, so it'd make sense.

Thus the US government gets an "anonymous tip" (from Big Boss himself) about Outer Heaven containing nukes and planning to do something. This is naturally a lie. Venom doesn't want to attack any nations, or anyone really except maybe Big Boss, but he didn't have his nation yet. The US, with the wrong information given to them, decide it needs to be handled and deal a preemptive strike. Thus they use their best forces of Fox Hound to take him down. Solid Snake goes in.

There. I just did a better story than MGS V actually had.

...I just remembered something after returning to Mother Base...

What the fuck happened to that Battle Gear?  I remember it being hyped to Hell and we could "field test it", but there's never an option to do so.

...Or is it just for those combat deployments?

Bingo. It was originally supposed to be operable, but got cut because it was apparently overpowered.
