It's not always if you ask me. If it's a legit expansion that was fresh newly made content after a game is released? I think it is deserving of being DLC.

Like anything in Fallout DLC, or Skyrim's Dragonborn stuff.
there's no way to gauge that these days

skyrim isn't a great example, imo, because DLC was already an established mainstay of the industry by that point

so it's hard to believe bethesda didn't have DLC in mind while developing the game

in general, i just hate paying extra for... anything, really
DLC, or more generally add-on content, ideally should be enough content such that it blurs the line between expansion and full-on sequel.

With multiplayer games, it's a bit more difficult see it that way, because it's easy to think of add-ons as 'extra' maps and 'extra' weapons. But in the grander scheme of things, if they're adding double the content for about the same price as the base game, it's almost like they're giving you a new game. And by releasing a steady stream of content, it keeps players interested until a sequel comes out (which establishes goodwill for the developer because players get to feel like they spend their money's worth).

For example, Battlefield 3 shipped for $60 with 9 maps. Through DLC, it got 20 more maps and a decent number of weapons and game types, too. IIRC buying all of them premium only cost about $50, until the price was lowered to $30 more recently. That's over 200% more maps for like 17% less money. They could have just made a sequel the next year for all the work it took, but they didn't.

Other examples I can think of would be the Shivering Isles expansion for Oblivion (they learned their lesson after 'horse armor'-gate) and The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, which was standalone, but also included an HD remaster of the original game. There's plenty of others, those were just the ones off the top of my head.

Ergh, it's a shame I have to design a kid's book for my homework project. I wish I could just hand in MGS pics and be like 'yeah, kids would love this stuff!'

'horse armor'-gate
do i wanna know
Back when Oblivion was still a thing, Bethesda released a shit DLC called "horse armor" that was $2.50. Just armor for your horse, and your horse was useless in that game because you went just as fast, if not faster than the horse.

It's not become associated with useless and overpriced DLC.

His eyebrows sparkling, his white beard hangs down to his chest. The thatched mats, spread outside his chise, spread softly, his splendid attos. He polishes, cross-legged, his makiri, with his eyes completely absorbed.

He is Ainu.

The god of Ainu Mosir, Ae-Oine Kamuy, descendant of Okiku-Rumi, He perishes, a living corpse. The summers day, the white sunlight, unabrushed, ends simply through his breath alone.

Not to mention that horse-armor is credited with kickstarting the trend of releasing a multitude of smaller DLC pieces rather than large expansions.

No, actually. Probably because this picture doesn't accurately represent what I look like.

I will take that as a compliment.

I'm doing an animation pitch for my class
Spoiler
It's just a simple story about an evil witch stirring her pot with a malicious smile however, the mob arrives and drags her out of her house and have her baptized with fire, this will be shown with shadows.

But it will have one final shot without shadows that will show the pot with food and next to it a baby crying because he's hungry & wants his. (The "evil witch" wasn't really a witch but an innocent mother framed by someone for reasons unknown.) I'll be presenting this to my class-mates on Monday.
That sounds pretty dank/dark. Dankark. Darnk. Danrk.

So I just got to Chapter 2, and so far...I'm not impressed.  I'm not a big fan of grinders, but apparently I have to either grind out Side Ops or replay mission stories on harder difficulties just to advance?

Is this a Kojima thing, or a Konami thing?

Open world games in general have a grind fest to em.

It always involves getting some materials, capturing shit, running all the way across for something, etc. Pacing of the story for MGS V is my main concern.

Or rather... a lack of story.
