I've been focusing on Motherbase expansion and side-missions primarily, still in Afghanistan. I feel like I'm going to meet Quiet soon, been getting a lot of chatter about a sniper in the mountains.

I heard she was at the power station so I spent about 30 mins running there on foot, only to find she wasn't there, and I encountered her later in a story mission :|

This game needs better fucking checkpoints, holy shit.

Technically speaking he was there all along, and not just as Ishmael. Venom Snake had Big Boss' physical attributes and his skills, he had Boss' memories artificially implanted, and he was hypnotized into having the same thought patterns. A perfect copy so flawless that even he didn't know he was somebody else. So, really, he was as much Big Boss as Big Boss was Big Boss.

On that note, he's also what Raiden what supposed to be but wasn't.

Not overly similar, mind, but parallel in the idea. Both were soldiers modeled after other soldiers who were supposed to become exactly like the one they were emulating. The difference is Venom Snake succeeded at becoming Big Boss while Raiden could never become Solid Snake.

Also am I the only one that hates how the opening credits for Mission 23 spoil that Eli is the White Mamba?

Nothing, really. It's done.

The Big Boss you face at the end of MG1 is the phantom, while the one on your codec in MG1 is the real Big Boss from Snake Eater/Peace Walker.

The Big Boss you face in Zanzibarland in MG2 is the real one, and he becomes the one you see in MGS4.

I wouldn't call it "the biggest mystery in the franchise" but whatever.

The final boss of Metal Gear was Venom Snake. Solid Snake didn't fight Big Boss until Metal Gear 2. The Genome Soldiers were incomplete because they had Venom Snake's DNA, not Big Boss'.

Just "finished" it. Beat Mission 31. Credits rolled. Then it showed Chapter 2, with Quiet Torture scenes and stuff. Anyone confirm that there's actually new story and cutscenes? Because so far, the 2 new missions I have are repeats with modifiers on.

Yes, there's about 12 more story missions.

Chapter 2 is much better than the first, IMO. Not good, but better.
