The passive comments the Witcher from the School of the Cat in the DLC makes about what Witcher school armour Geralt is wearing was a nifty touch. Like, if you're wearing Feline armour, he'd make a joke about it and call him a crossbreed.

1 is PC only. It isn't all that necessary to play before TW2 if you're unable to.
2 is on 360. Fantastic game, and definitely a must play, even though it isn't super necessary to play TW3.

Wild Wild Wasteland Perk in FNV, or the plunger room in Fallout 3.

Metro does a good job of setting the atmosphere through it's characters and NPC's. Walking through any station and listening to people's stories or just a little segment of their lives just sets the scene perfectly. Venice is a good example, or the Theatre station.

Did you know that the gas mask in Metal Gear Solid doesn't work underwater? The developers specifically coded the mask so it wouldn't slow the oxygen meter while submerged, and there's exactly one spot in the whole game, right at the start, where water is present. I thought that was really interesting.

Yeah, but I wouldn't have expected them to have bothered putting that in the game given it's extremely unlikely a player would backtrack to the starting area just to see if the gas mask works underwater. They could have made the mask slow oxygen depletion no matter what environment you need it in, but they went the extra mile when they had absolutely no reason to do so.
