Whether you like it or not Verb, PC does have a wider variety of games
Then show me, and I'll prove you wrong.

Quote
I just argue with obvious logic
No you don't.

Quote
there is a much larger number of games
Which is irrelevant. Which is my entire fucking point.

Quality > Quantity.

If PC has 3,000,000,000 games to console's 30,000, it doesn't matter if all 3B of those games suck.
Quote
They play at lower frame rates and lower resolutions
So what?

Quote
Now you can say it sucks all you want, but I'll always be here to tell you why you're wrong.
You can't even string a coherent sentence together, let alone prove me wrong on anything.

Quote
Lastly the 'power' of a console matters (and pc aswell) because like I just demonstrated it gives the devs more flexibility to create a game really worth playing, may it be the ability to churn out nice graphics or a good framerate.
I don't give a fuck about "nice graphics" or a "good framerate".

There is no such thing as "nice" graphics. There is no such thing as "good" frame rates.

It's a perception in your head. What you think is nice, I may think is terrible. It's ALL subjective.

Having an argument with Verb is difficult when he just cuts up your argument so it clearly doesnt make sense, then says what he just did with it doesnt make sense.

Like dude put some effort in I addressed all your points and you gave me this drab to run on. Weak.

I responded to every single one of your shit points. I don't "cut it up" so that it doesn't make sense--you do that well enough on your own with your ridiculous syntax and inability to type a sensible thought. I cut up arguments because it's organized. This way, I can give a short response to each one of your points individually, instead of having to type up a fucking essay.

I refuted all of your points, and you haven't responded.

That can be flipped over onto your points as well.

You say that Civ 5 is terrible and not a good representation of a good PC game, well to another person it is an amazing game that shows just how great the PC is.
It's all subjective. You can't say console is better than the PC because you alone like the games on console better and hope to prove it. To someone who enjoys PC they cannot see why you would even like console games.

And that was kinda the point of this thread, it's all subjective. Because what one person likes can be heavily contradicted by someone else's likings. Thus starting a debate. I wanted to see if debates like these actually can get somewhere without a single insult having to be thrown.
Overall, I am not so happy with the results. But whatever, it's Sep7.

Reading through this thread and I want to hurt myself.

In 2016, the only thing consoles have over PCs is accessibility, and even that gap is closing. Gaming PCs are ridiculously versatile and are increasingly easier to afford and work with.

There is nothing to respond to most of the ignorant statements you made. The only two worth referring to is....oh also quoting on mobile is annoying as fuck so just bare with me okay bub.

Showing you a list of 'better' pc games. Okay this may take some time but let me cut it to this generation,  Ill respond later with a list of all the PS4/One/WiiU titles against all PC titles starting from 2013.

Quote
Which is irrelevant. Which is my entire fucking point.

Quality > Quantity.

If PC has 3,000,000,000 games to console's 30,000, it doesn't matter if all 3B of those games suck.

And something I also noted which you completely disregarded is that with the higher amount of games brings along the higher likelihood of a good game. Which will hopefully resonate with my list later.

Now said 'so what' to consoles possibly having lower res and fps, well if its the same game on PC then lets take a realistic pallette and give it shitty graphics,  thats not what the dev intended so its clearly a worse product then the PC, most console games which are also on PC are good but sometimes we get poor attempts as well, for example Fallout 4, they look and play very differently, where the console version can appear sluggish in comparison as well as visually not appearing what the dev wanted. Which in this case is a clear crisp take on the wasteland.

Quote
I don't give a fuck about "nice graphics" or a "good framerate".

Okay then, a lot of people do and is usually the breaking point between someone buying a console or PC

Quote
There is no such thing as "nice" graphics. There is no such thing as "good" frame rates.

Incorrect.  I will give you examples later on when Im not on mobile of games with bad graphics and bad framerates, and its not because the dev wanted it that way, its because its a shit game.

It all goes on a games  aesthetic appearance,  a lot of games do it well yes, but the number of games with no aesthetic value (fuck it Call of Duty) have bad graphics and bad framerates in cases.

There is no reason to believe that that's true. Mostly because I hate almost all exclusive PC games. What reason is there to believe that I will like more of them in the future? None.

Quote

We're not talking about what the developer intended. We're talking about what we personally like.

What the developer likes has absolutely NOTHING to do with what I like. So there is no objectivity.

Maybe I ENJOY sluggish movement or low-poly graphics. You have no right to tell me that I can't like that, and you can't tell me that one is objectively better than the other.

Quote
Okay then, a lot of people do and is usually the breaking point between someone buying a console or PC
I don't care. The fact that there are people who don't care means that you CAN'T say that it's objectively better.

In order for PC to be objectively better based on graphics and frame rate alone, everyone has to care about graphics and frame rate first. But that's not the case.

Quote

If I'm not here, I'm doing photography. Or I'm asleep. Or in lockdown. One of those three, anyway.

The current titlebar/avatar setup is just normal.

Anywho, here's what I have to add to the table, as relatively impartial as possible.

PC
+Options for higher graphic quality and higher resolutions at higher scales (Native Ultra 4K vs. Up-scaled Medium 720p/1080p)
+Easy to access market. I can go online and buy Steam, Origin, or completely DRM-free games without needing a specific console brand, only the right hardware to play it
+High level or hardware/software/peripheral accessories customisation. Don't like my keyboard or mouse or need a specialised device, I can get a new one. Differing controllers are limited choice, pretty poor (e.g. Madcatz), and barely catered for the disabled.
+Modular. If I ran out of memory for saving games, I can replace it with a new, larger hard drive or buy another to go with it. If the stock cooling fan is inefficient or noisy, I can replace it. With consoles, replacing the stock fan with a new one involves a lot of hassle and voids any warranty if it breaks (I'm looking at you, Xbox360)
+Free Online access. I can play most games on PC online straight after I've bought them, with monthly payments usually reserved for "freemium" games or MMORPG's. If I want to play World of Tanks on PC with party chat, I install it and TeamSpeak, for free. To do the same on console costs £40/y.
+Instant access on new releases. Most PC games are digital copies, so limited numbers of a game on release isn't a concern unless it's some Limited Edition that has physical trinkets added to the pack. Large PC game providers (Steam/Origin) have enough servers for millions of customers to download at midnight release without much hassle, with some offering pre-download options to play ON midnight release and minimise server load and any waiting times, possibly seconds after it's been released to the world.
+Reverse compatibility. If I enjoyed playing Deus Ex: Human Revolution and wanted to enjoy the chronological sequel, Deus Ex, I would have to change from my PS3 to my PS2. On PC, I can click off DE:HR on Steam and run the original DE from the disc I've inserted.
+The cheaper option. If I have only £200, I can still afford to play games on a PC versus buying a console. The quality may not be as great and I may be restricted by the cheap hardware, but it's still cheaper and I still have a range of free games to choose from. I can even wait until some ridiculous Steam, GMG or other retailer has a blowout sale where games can be sold for pennies. In Valve games, virtual trading cards or in-game items can be collected freely and then sold or traded for real-life currency, and then used to buy a game. You could literally play to earn a new game.
+Console Commands. Well fuck, the game's bugged and now it doesn't do the thing it's supposed to. No worries! Press ¬, enter and few .commands or /commands and it's all fixed, or improved to suit you.
+/- Modding. Mods in games like Skyrim or Fallout can breathe new life into an old game, put a spin on the vanilla gameplay or just be downright hilarious. The downside is this can be abused in online games with lackluster security, e.g. GTA or CoD where godmodders run rampant. Some can run on consoles but is far more accessible on PC. InB4muhAutisticIntegrity.

Console
+No knowledge required. I don't have to worry about if my hardware can run a game, it's a console! It'll run anything that has a game for it. All games, updates, patches, DLC's and other software are vetted to make sure it runs, so you don't have to worry your pretty little head about it.
+Social. It's more friendly to play in groups with consoles, be it splitscreen or taking turns, compared to the more solitary PC setup.
+One interface. By this I mean if I want to play CoD and then switch to BF, and then later WoT I don't need to leave Steam and open up Origin, and then open the WoT Launcher instead. It's all under one interface, and online accounts are linked so I don't need separate logins to play between games, or add the same person as a friend 4 times.
+Target audience. Whether PC gamers like it or not, consoles are the target audience and are the benchmark for a majority of games' performance. Most control maps are well suited for consoles (E.g. Skyrim), and occasionally receive timed exclusives before PC or rival console players.
+/-Physical copies. The act of inserting a cartridge or disc instead of a digital copy can be preffered to some, and it has other advantages, such as requiring less memory used on the hard drive for game files and the ability for resale later on. However there are disadvantages, such as CD space remaining constant while game file sizes increase requiring more discs to play a single game (E.g. LA Noire or GTA V for consoles), and the ability for the disc to fail, requiring you to buy a brand new one or find a suitable second hand copy.

Both
+/-Exclusives. Consoles have their own brand-exclusives (Gears of War, Halo, Crackdown/Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, Last of Us), as well as cross-console exclusives (Destiny), while PC's have generally larger playercount games or requiring powerful machines to run (ArmA, EVE, LoL, KSP for the time being).

There's a few other minor details I've neglected to mention such as the size of the machines themselves (Consoles are pretty lightweight compared to the high powertowers of large desktop PC's), but it's getting late and I need bed.

Oh, well then. If the reason was because mods have the potential to ruin your game (which occurs often for those who don't know what they're doing), then I could see why he doesn't like them. But really, because it's not how they intended for the game to be? Bethesda has released modding tools (the G.E.C.K. for Fallout games) to the general public for nearly all their games. Plus, modding brings the community together and encourages creativity; it gets the community involved.

I don't care. In my opinion, the only people who are at liberty to change/add shit to the game are the developers. Everyone else should leave the game alone or make their own game. It's like pissing in a museum.

If the developer supports it, like Bethesda does, that's fine, but I still don't agree with it. Would you want to be friends with someone who's okay with you pissing all over his house? I sure wouldn't.

"But everyone has their own copy of the game."

And you can do whatever you want. By all means, mod. I just don't agree with it, and I never will.

Part of building a PC that will always be a positive over the consoles is the individualism involved in it. You could always copy someone's build and have it run find but you also have the power to make the PC uniquely your own and have it run either the same or better. There's always this belief that you have to have all this crazy $1000 shit in order to run your games on a PC just for better graphics which isn't the case. This is usually stated by people who don't even care that much about graphics which makes me wonder why more and more they feel this way when you can tailor your PC to fit your own needs and not some predetermined settings consoles place you in.

The analogies you offer don't make sense simply because the creator encourages you to do so. Pissing in the museum would be fine if the owners encourage you to do it as well, which is exactly what Bethesda is doing.

Thank you for cutting out the part where I tackled this exact point.

I still don't care. I think Bethesda are fucking idiots for allowing you to piss in their museum. I wouldn't visit a museum if everyone just pissed on the walls all day. That's not my idea of a good time.

>PS2 for $20 at a flea market

Find me a more cost efficient PC that can run any game at optimal settings.
It's 2016 now. I'm pretty sure that even the most potato of potato PCs these days can run 10+ year old PS2 level games. If you have a decent mobo, you may even be able to run them just by using on-board video. You can also build a PC of comparable or better power to a modern console for roughly the same price.

To address your other point: Unless you were referring to Nintendo, X1/PS4 having "better" games than PC is bullshit and you know it. Most AAA titles these days are multiplatform, and X1/PS4 still don't exactly have any real killer apps as of yet. Sure, Sony has plenty of exclusives, but those are mostly appealing for people who were already fans of Sony. Maybe one or two tops is good enough to justify me spending $300+ on a console, which isn't nearly enough, IMHO. With PC, you effectively get 90% of the same games, a shitload more exclusives, infinitely more longevity (no issues of "backwards compatibility"), and freedom with what you can do with those games (I know you don't like it, but mods are a pretty huge upside to PC gaming.) Not to mention you don't have to pay for XBL/whatever the fuck Sony uses now. The only thing you have to pay to play online is your ISP.

I'm sorry, but PC is just objectively better than X1/PS4. I'm not going to compare Nintendo, because Nintendo is in it's own league and can't really be compared due to it being Nintendo and hosting completely different genres and appealing to completely different demographics than what is typical of other platforms.
I'm gonna have to respond later, but thank you for the substantive response. There's actually some worthy discussion points you brought up, unlike what I've been dealing with in this thread with LC/azu/Batch.
