See you Cowgirl,
Someday, somewhere
The Covenant have the technology to pinpoint forerunner artifacts

Cortana only sent the message, not the ship.

1. How the fuck did the Gravemind get to the Ark? The only way to get there was the portal on earth, and if he made it there he could have easily attacked earth. I mean he could have at least launched a couple spores before going through the portal.
Well in Halo 2 the Gravemind could teleport Chief and the Arbiter so he must have teleported himself to the Ark when he found its location.

Quote
2. How did the Covenant know where the portal on earth was? Yeah, I get that they were told what planet to go to, but how would they know that it was underneath Kenya and not fucking Canada?
If anything I bet Truth's Dreadnought had the coordinates to the portal and the rest of the Covenant followed.

Quote
3. Why the fuck would Cortana send a flood infected Covenant cruiser to earth just to send a message? She nearly made the species go to extinct, that fucking cunt.
When you link up with the Elites on Floodgate, one says that the Flood-Infested Carrier that made it to Earth got past an Elite blockade. Cortana just recorded that message and sent it to Earth.

A huge one that always bothers me when I start Arrival/Sierra 117. How were Johnson and Miranda able to get back to Earth faster than the Forerunner Dreadnought? Not only that, but make it to the Crow's Nest and set up operations there. It seems like they've been there for quite some time. What ship did they take? How is it faster than the technologically superior Forerunners? Are Dreadnoughts just really slow in slipspace? How long was Chief laying in the jungle before Johnson and his search party found him? Would be nice to see a comic addressing some of this.

He knew Truth would fire the rings. Taking over Earth can't do him any good if life is wiped out. And he did leave spores. In fact, he left a whole Covie ship full of Flood. What do you think the Floodgate mission was? They were still fighting Flood when MC and Arby went through the portal.

In Halo 2's new terminals we show that Regret is shown where the Ark is. It tells him the planet, yes, but I think it's safe to assume it gave specific coordinates. Forerunners wouldn't be so vague.

She didn't. There just happened to be a message from her left on this ship. Probably was one on every ship so when Gravemind sent it out, she could send a warning.

I think the bigger issue here is how High Charity fit in the portal.

I recently played through Halo 3 and was wondering the same things when I was playing on those levels.

A) Gravemind used Precursor knowledge to create his own portal to the Ark, as confirmed by 343.

B) Magic, though Forerunner tech is probably not going to let it slide.

C) Calculated risk, but Gravemind probably "wanted" it to happen too.

343's been fixing a lot of Halo 3's stuff. At least the contradictory things.

If the Gravemind had tentacles under the activation area the whole time, why didn't he just stop Truth from activating rings

Halo 3 takes place like 3 months after Halo 2. Read the uprising comics to see what happened between 2 and 3 with the chief.

But it just doesn't make sense...how is it possible it would take the Dreadnought that long to get to Earth from High Charity  which was near Delta Halo? And that is traveling through slipspace...

"If it isn't one of ours, shoot it"- Lord Hord

That is literally the last scene of Halo 2, and the Dreadnought has already entered Earth's atmosphere.

The last scene in halo 2 is the dread going towards earth. I'm assuming it held position in orbit while the rest of the covenant fleet excavated the portal.

Hey, did you folks forget ODST or something? ODST explained how they found the portal. Engineers flooded invasion sites and found anomalies. They lucked out over africa when Vergil fused with the AI that overwatched Mombasa and found information on excavation sites that led to something more.

At the end of ODST you see other engineers examining the site with Truth floating down to pay a visit. After that they proceeded to glass the shit out of the area.

I probably mixed up the length between 1 and 2 and 2 and 3.

It's been so long since I gave a shit about halo canon.

The Gravemind was on High Charity when it flew through the portal, and at least one flood-infected ship crashed on Earth.

High Charity didn't fly through the portal [it's too big]. Gravemind slipspaced his way through it.

That Flood infected ship was Cortana's message being sent to Earth.

He was unconscious, though. He couldn't drink anything while out cold.

But, assuming you're right, the average human can survive three weeks without solid food. However, after about two weeks, hunger would make even walking extremely difficult. Getting up and getting into armed combat shouldn't even be possible, even with metal bones, steroids, and powered armor. It doesn't look like Johnson and his goons fed him when they found him, either.

The easy answer to that would be not really since we were never shown any other parts of Earth beyond Africa. Australia got dunked and I'd imagine just about every other major population zone got plasma dropped on them too.

Don't forget about luminaries though. Helpful tools those things are.

The entire game is a plothole. Big enough for High Charity to actually fly through it.
