Just because a girl can show sexiness, that doesn't have to define her character. You want an example, Verb, take Tifa and compare her to Quiet.

There is a difference when a character happens to be sexy while portrayed as a character with depth, as compared to a character who's ONLY sexy and that's all she has going for her.

Edit: I'd also like to add that Quiet annoyed me BECAUSE of the blatant fanservice that overshadowed a character who had potential. And the fact Kojima basically said "lol when you find out WHY, you'll feel silly!"

Well, it's clearly not black and white, right? Things aren't simply either "acceptable" or "unacceptable". That's why feminists use terms like "problematic"--to describe depictions of women that are getting there, but still fall short in other aspects--like Tifa, like Bayonetta.

I don't think it should be looked at as "getting there" like what they look like should be super duper negative. Anyone who's played or understands both those characters happen to know it fits their personality or playstyle or whatever. It's not their clothes that define who they are, or what they are.

And even if a female in games is ready to show a little leg, I don't think it should be instantly condemned. It's not the middle east if you ask me, women can be allowed to show themselves a little if they so choose so.

That's a completely separate issue. The question feminists ask is, "Is this a good representation of women in media?"

And the answer is no, generally speaking.

You might be able to look past the negative aspects of a female character, but feminists aren't. If you want a good critique, you have to look at it from all sides, and one of those sides is to concede that, "Yeah, Bayonetta kinda makes a mockery of women here. She's only dressed like that to make men's dicks hard."

It's either one extreme or the other it seems when it comes to that stuff.
