Oh, hey.
Much to my surprise. Saw it was on sale so I said mind as well. And I have been pleased by the decision.

The game's story didn't start off all too great. Atleast it didn't grab me or feel quality until chapter 7 (I think?). After an event that changes the characters, they begin to feel more believable. I hated Noctus' character (still hate Ignis but less now) but he finally has a coming of age, or atleast a realistic role after said event.

I'm towards the end, somehow the game became a spook fest now.

Combat is so fluid and fun. Took a while to understand that you can hold down buttons to parry and block, but after that it's been pretty easy going.

I've never played a FF game, never had an interest, never cared for it. Sure the game is not my type of style, not a fan of anime/Japanese styles but I can appreciate the overall effort and quality of the game. It has been hilariously Japanese at times, but I do have to admit it's pretty damn good.

I'd play it if I had a PS4, but yeah I can't. The combat looks somewhat interesting, but eh, I miss the old turn based.

I actually have the game for Xbox but don't know if I'll play it partially because of this. Never really played FF before so I might as well, but eh... This thread gives me hope at least.

It's weird, but the game is good enough to look past when it gets into so weird anime stuff

There are better Final Fantasies to try if you want to.

Newer Final Fantasy titles are really 50/50 on whether or not it will be very eastern/anime-like. I highly recommend FFXII, it's just barely on the border of being more western than eastern in terms of themes, atmosphere, story, and setting and there's enough content to last you AGES. I've put in 200 hours into one save file and still haven't seen everything there is to do in Ivalice. It's getting its HD remaster for the PS4 next year and I have it preordered and I don't even have a PS4 yet.

OT: OP, if you're gonna do endgame, there's an easy method of grinding EXP while making Gil to boot. Go to Past Altissia and buy the 8k Gil meal that gives you a 100% exp boost, then go back to past Lucis and go to the town just outside the Rock of Ravatough. Do the hunt the has you kill 7 wyverns, it's right outside the town so it's super easy to go to the hunt spot and then use travel back to car to easily get back to town to turn it in. Use the Ring of The Lucii to kill all the wyverns in less than two minutes and you'll get 9k exp each run, and you can sell the wyvern wings at the town when they start to stack up. After about two hours you'll have roughly 300-500k exp. When you think you've done it enough, you can go back to Past Altissia and stay at the 15k/30k Gill inn room which will triple you exp tally.

X is super eastern/anime-like. Just a forewarning.

Only reason I'd even try it is because I have FF XV sitting right next to me, so I'm not gonna get one of the others as well. My girlfriend has FF X remastered on the PC though, so I suppose I could play that one as well.

I-VI are rather western though, they're just not bogged down by Tolkenism. And because they're old they play similar to Pokemon as far as combat goes. It wasn't until VII when Nomura took over and slathered belts and leather on everybody. But the gameplay for even the more easetrn designed titles are still solid.

I still highly recommend XII, best in the series. I love XV, it was very fun but it's dwarfed by XII in terms of quality.

Trust me, I know. I've seen her play it. Definitely not my thing. Looks like FF is a series I might never touch.

It's honestly not that bad, man. I can think of a handful of other RPG's that are waaaaaaaaay more eastern. Not much anime stuff is in the game that I can remember off the top of my head.

If he's on about character designs, of course you're not going to run into medieval knights in these settings, but it's not totally insane with the belts and crazy stuff. Heck even with 7 I can think of main characters that aren't over the top. It started getting crazy with FF 8.

We'll have to disagree here. 6 or 7, or even 10 is the best in the series, even if 7 is vastly overrated.

The main character for 12 is terrible. Gideon Emery is one of the few saving graces for that MMO that didn't quite make it.

I can't think of many off the top of my head, so I could be wrong. Name me a few.

Unless you're on exclusively about character designs.

VII is nowhere near the best in the series. It's great but not awesome or fantastic.

And XII doesn't have a single main character.

I mean, yeah, that's kind of the biggest and most important factor. You're dealing with these characters for the whole game, after all. The characters' designs, as well as their personalities, mannerisms, ways of interacting with each other, dialogue, and how the female characters are treated by the developers, are all insufferably anime.

I disagree with the way they interact. The only one I'd say is anime tier is Rikku. And FF character designs have always been EH. I mean, I'd rather have that colorful cast than the Backstreet boys of FF 15, which is one of my main gripes about that game. They all look like they're from a Japanese boyband.

The main guy you play as is Vaan. It may focus heavily on other characters, but he's the main protagonist. Just like Tidus is the main dude in X, but he's not the leader or anything.

And I think 7 is fantastic. It's overrated for sure, but I think the story, and characters are fantastic. That being said, I think 6 gives it a run for its money too. I only just recently beat it last year and I'm surprised how much depth those characters have for a game on the Super Nintendo.

Don't get me wrong, I think I like FF 12. I mean, I'm gonna give it another chance with the PS4/PC (hopefully) remaster, because the audio in 12 is horribly compressed. But yeah, the MMO tier combat mechanics that took heavy influence from FF 11 leave me wanting more.

Yeah, the thing about FF is that it's only gotten progressively worse with that shit. Same with Fire Emblem, same with Shining Force. I definitely have a higher tolerance for it than Flee does, though--Flee had to stop playing Sun/Moon because of the incredibly mild anime influence that the game has, so knowing his tolerance level, that's why I'm like, "Yeahhh, FFX might be a bit much for him."

Fair enough. It's why I'd recommend 6 or 7 more so.

Fire Emblem has sort of gotten worse, but it's always been hugely influenced by the anime art style and brand of things. Even the older ones were like, straight up animeish. Only difference now is the bond tree where you can marry and have kids, which honestly, I didn't like at first, but it's funny that a lot of the kids have more depth than the parents.

It's the reason they dragged like 4 of them from Awakening (the last game) to the newest game.

Not really sure what we're talking about here. FFX or V aren't MMO, are they? But yeah, you're right. Only MMO(RPG) I ever played was Runescape like 10 years ago. Oh and a free WoW trial for like 30 days at around the same time.
No, X and XV aren't MMOs. The game I was referring to was XII, which actually isn't an MMO either. I made a mistake; I was thinking of XI. That's my bad. There's way too many fucking games to keep track of ::)

To clear things up: XI and XIV are both weeby MMOs, which I don't think you'd be into at all.

The rest are RPGs, including X, XII, and XV.
