Yes I was. But for like 3 matches. I was Cloud, Shulk, and Mega Man for all matches after that.

But not really a lot of projectiles (well some projectiles) and throws, but mostly N-airs, F-airs, B-airs, Up-airs, and D-airs. Surprised, huh?

well, assuming he hasn't switched characters, the best thing to do in those situations is to just bait him out

mewtwo is strong, but he's also very light and kinda slow, so he can't take very many hits himself, on top of being "unsafe" (he can't just do moves willy-nilly, because if he misses or gets blocked, he'll get punished hard)

e.g.
if he's grabbing you a lot, try predicting that and rolling away when he gets close--then counterattack, if you're quick enough

how long have you been playing?
the best advice i could give to a beginner, i think, is to learn how to play defensively

kinda like how they teach you to drive defensively

learning how to adapt to your opponent's habits (does he throw a lot, does he roll a lot, does he air dodge a lot, etc.) is important, too

try to develop some level of enjoyment towards the game on a casual level before you start playing people online

Hmm I might stick to single player until I get a better feel. I like using Marth, he has nice attacks and he's not too heavy or light. Is there a way to toggle the dashing? I hate it when I attack and then I immediately start dashing afterwards.

First off, I don't think it's a good idea that you constantly up-b using marth, assuming you think it's a one-hit KO if you hit it.

I recommend playing with IRL friends constantly if you know anybody who's into Smash (also get on Anther's Ladder if you want to get serious). Getting a feel for the inputs of each attack and what it does with your character is also important, as well as looking at what you did wrong. Another good thing to do is play as many characters as possible when you practice, so you know what to do when you're up against them. I got pantsed against Nosejob because I had no idea what Mega Man's moveset was like, and playing as him really gave me an insight into why I got memed so hard. Also watch some tourneys online (I like Shockwave through Tourney locator on YouTube). I developed a lot of my play style similar to Hyrule Hero's Link, and it can help you get to understand Edge Guarding and other stuff you don't really get to see against AI.

As a side note, the Wii U's Wireless Net Card is a sack of shit, and you should try to get an Ethernet USB adapter as soon as possible, because it can hurt your performance a lot online.

Marth is a good character to main if you know how to use him. His counter provides an alternative to air dodge when you're being juggled.

Marth is a good counter for Mewtwo and Falcon, I find. He's actually one of my favourite characters to play as in Smash 4. Try to keep your opponents away a meter or so (just close enough to hit them with the tip of your sword -- that's Marth's "sweet spot", i.e., the place where you do the most damage.)

If you ever get someone off stage, learn to charge up your smash attacks (c-stick+directional) and time properly when they come back to the stage. Marth has a ton of knockback.
