I've always wanted to do this, and I'm not even that bad at drawing--I'm just way too lazy, and it takes a lot of time.

You're a great artist, though, so this should be a lot of fun.

I ended up naming my Torchic Ricky earlier but then I stopped to catch up and draw. I might name one after a MGS character if it's appropriate though

I didn't actually catch anything in route 101. I caught my next Pokemon just on the way to Petalburg but you'll find out soon enough!
