Well, technically not the first time--I played a few years ago, but I never got very far, and I've forgotten most of it past Peragus II, so it would mostly be like the first time all over again.

I bought the game for ultra-cheap on Steam a few years ago, and I'm looking to play it again now that I'm older and would appreciate it more.

tl;dr But I wanted to know: should I play it with the restoration mods installed? IE, the Restored Content Mod and maybe the M4-78 mod. I want the best experience for (essentially) my first playthrough, yada yada help me, only hope, you know the deal.

Yes play with the restored content mod. While I agree with Verb on vanilla, you need this to play KoToR II. The game shipped incomplete with missing portions of the story and such. The restoration mod fixes that.

Thanks for the responses  :D

>.> Believe it or not, I'd usually agree with you on that point, but this game sounds like a rare exception.

It was rushed to meet the 2004 holiday season and thus did not turn out very close to Obsidian's intentions. There's a lot of unused content left over in the PC version (the basis for the main restoration mod) and in the Xbox version (the basis for M4-78). Some of it is simple like camera work that wasn't finished in time, and others are more important stuff like unused dialogue options (important for an RPG :3), and a whole planet. Plus, it fixes a lot of bugs that shipped with the game, so that alone probably makes it worth it.

So I guess I should explain why I even asked, if I already know so much about it: second opinions  :P

Is everything that was cut, put into this mod?

Everything that was in the source files that wasn't put into the game. Basically, there's planets that you have the files to, but can't access. This mod lets you access those planets.

I only looked into it a little bit. From what I understand, it added some missing planets (A droid planet?), and some cutscenes on the final planet

Not necessarily. Some content was cut for obvious reasons :P

The restoration mod restores content from most of the game. The robot planet wasn't in any playable state (and some of its features were relocated to other parts of the game) and had to be rebuilt from scratch, so other modders have taken up that responsibility.

The planet mod is compatible with the restoration mod, and can't run without it.
