How do I add money to Microsoft wallet?

Have about 13 in my Microsoft account wallet and need to deposit 5 more to buy a dlc. How do I do this do I buy a gift card then redeem it on my account or what?

Can't you just use your card and whatever money is in your wallet will be applied to that purchase (like Steam)?

I just bought something off the Xbox store that was $5 but I only had $4 in my Microsoft account so $1 was charged to my bank.

You can. You can even use PayPal.

OP, use Paypal and you can have all the money that's in your Microsoft account extracted from the purchase. This is what I used to do on Xbox. It splits the cost without taking much money out of your card.

I just bill my downloads straight through Paypal or my debit card, you really don't need any money in your Microsoft account. That wallet is meant for gift cards, mostly.
