Update: HouseTrap has had a bit of an overhaul. New trees, sounds, free roam (yes I removed the invisible walls, you can now go out of bounds and reket the game.) and total darkness. Oh and with Unity 5's new Skybox system, I don't need to have a premade Skybox anymore.

I'll try to bring the main menu back. It causes the main game to have the weapon disappear for good for some reason, and I can't have that in this game. With all that said, have fun. Enjoy my shitty game.

The devil now laughs. Also, new screen size. 1280x720



Original OP
Here is one of my first and shitty limbo games. I've done a lot of updating. I did compose the menu music using Garage Band on my iTouch at the time.

The first person controller with the gun isn't mine. Neither is the AI code for the enemy machine gun, though I still had to set it up. I paid $20 just to have and use those. Same goes with the HUD, expect part of the HUD is mine.

What is mine?

The entire terrain (excluding the Skybox, I found that online somewhere)

The flashlight, I wrote the code for the script and positioned it myself, press F to use that.

The pause menu isn't entirely mine but I've made enough mortifications to it, and yes, it was made to be used for starting projects like this. There is a java-script version and the C# version. Just Google Unity Pause menu to find them.

The assets, some are mine, some are free models that had a reuse license and can be used in free projects (like this shitty game)

The Easter eggs are mine. I set them up. As for what they are you'd have to dig to find out.

One piece of basic AI code is mine.

This game was made using Unity, and the most recent build as or right now was made in Unity 5 beta. I know it says Unity 4 beta, but if you pause the game and go to Options > System, it will show you the version of Unity it was made on, which in this case is 5.0.0b1

I just figured I'd share this with you guys. It was a 3 man project but our 3rd guy wasn't motivated. I had to update the crappy game myself and to be honest, it's still crap, but it's my first ever project.

But pretty much anything that I make by myself with no help turns out to be kinda like this game. If it can even be called a game.

My shit got poorly received on NG. I worked with a team with my last class to finally release a game that has some objective and motive in it, but I don't publish it because it wasn't my idea, even though I did do most of the programming and had very little 3rd party assets to work with.

It's a piece of crap. I may have made the final better, but in my eyes it's still garbage because I think the 3 of us weren't 100% on board with what kind of game we wanted. We stuck with the title HouseTrap because no one could think of anything better, and originally, my concept involved an indoor level demo where you are in this house and you have to open bookshelves to find your way out, and if you entered in the wrong bookshelf, there would be a trap waiting for you and killing you, causing you to revert your last place or start all over. But my team ended up wanting to make it some kind of serial killer game where you have to hide bodies in a house before cops show up, which of course.... failed, because at the time it wasn't feasible and beyond our knowledge in programming.

Sure I can slowly within the strength of time change it and get close to that, but for now, I still see it as a failure, but I have learned plenty from it as far as feasibility goes and I can understand that not everything is 100% feasible, even to a AAA developer.

So the next time anyone has a really sick idea, make sure it can actually be done in terms of programming because that's where it really shows if it can or can't.

With that said, enjoy my crappy game.

Note: There is currently a bug in the final build that I need to fix, it conflicts the pause menu with the slowmo ability causing you to slightly slow down time. In order to pause the game now, run up to the slowmo power up and then pause the game. Try not to get shot though.

FYI: This was a student project, from my first game development class. My college only offers 3 and I took all 3. I've learned a lot thanks to those.

Anyway, I've just found the cop car/cop, the balloon-guy, the gun, the creepy aforementioned girl, and the house interior. Anything else to look at?

You forgot the Decimation Studios trademark.

Aside from that, no that's all of it. The girl is Marie, it's a model that can be used in Maya, and of course, didn't get fully ported in Unity.

The balloon guy is meant to be a body. I should probably cut that out since the design of the game has really changed compared to the original core mechanic.

There was originally a Rod Serling memorial on the other side of the woods but I cut it due to copyright. There is a creepy looking model made by my animation teacher from a past class though that I put in. He's on the other side of the woods.

Pants Adventure is probably my best project to date. We worked hard on that one. HouseTrap was my first game and it sucked. All of the updates I do to it are done by yours truly.

Honestly it's how I practice with Unity now. I should consider starting a new project.

All that stuff in the woods that seems out of place like the girl is just a random easter egg really.

It can be. Unity uses JavaScript and C#. Believe me, it took me forever to get a piece of code right in JavaScript without getting one script error.

A lot of the code I use in my games is either already done or has been done before. I'm usually forced to write it from scratch if I'm unable to find a good working one, which can be a bitch.

The code to the portals for example. It's probably out there, but I'm the one that wrote it from nothing, mainly because no one has ever bothered using it. All I did was just combine two lines that exist in the documentation.

Believe me I'm no real programmer. The enhanced first person controller is from Vision Punk, it's call UFPS. I got it for $20 but it's $95. Even though they're okay with using their shit in your projects, I should probably credit them. Especially since their latest overhaul that you witness. I had to set everything up though. Most of the sounds are either stock sounds, sounds that I paid for, and that one Xbox sound. I did a good deal of replacing, and yes I did edit the HUD slightly, which is good. I love that feature.

Anyway, it's not easy to program for sure. All I can say is if you're good at problem solving and you enjoy it, chances are you should be fine in programming because it requires a lot of thinking.

C++ is indeed hard. I don't know it. I hardly even know C#.

But the hardest thing I ever had to do in school for this engine... Shader scripting. We only had to do it once for our night vision tutorial, but boy was it a pain in the ass. It was very unforgiving. If you make one mistake, good luck figuring it out because it won't point it out to you like how JavaScript would.

If you have no experience in coding, I suggest learning HTML or Python first.

Play around with existing code first though. See what you can do with it.

If you hide on the other side of the cop car or house, it won't be able to see you.

The AI will, but not the machine gun AI.

Thanks. I plan on updating it in the future even more. Chances are I still think it's going to suck because it's my first ever project.

I have to draw the line somewhere and start developing something else. Something that will actually be enjoyable. It would require a team though because developing a game alone is pretty hard.
