So, now with Blops 3 confirmed that means we have basically a repeat of 2012's and even 2010's situation.

Once again it has fallen so that it's Black ops vs Halo, both of the previous match-ups between them have had CoD pretty much coming out on top (Blops vs Reach in 2010 and Blops2 vs Halo 4 in 2012) but I do wonder about the outcome this year.

I suppose it would be fair to say that neither franchise is what it once was; CoD seems to get deeper into trouble with each new game, AW's only saving grace was the introduction of Exos (A revamped mobility system, basically) and zombies (as bloody dlc). Halo hasn't technically fallen at all, although i'm sure many of you would say otherwise-but it's certainly not the monster it was pre-Halo 4.

The gaming world of today is very different, and although it's difficult to say without having seen anything of Black Ops 3 bar that teaser trailer... I believe that, parallel to previous years, Halo is now the more modern and advanced series. That can only bode well for Halo 5 beating out it's competition.

It doesn't make sense why people compete games together like that for that very reason. If you want an exclusive game to look good sales wise, compare it to other exclusive tittles, not multiplatforms.

well Killzone isnt really on anyone's radar and there really isnt another Multiplayer fps titan in the gaming arena (console). unless im forgetting something huge...

If it took place during the Cold War again I'd buy it. Vietnam and the Soviet war in Afghanistan, which was pretty much their Vietnam. Would be an interesting parallel.

The Black Ops series has had an impact on how popular gaming as a whole is, the fact that they were so successful led to an influx of people into gaming. Compare them to Reach and 4, both of those games are undoubtedly good and 4 is important in the franchise but neither have had an impact on the industry-whereas both Blops have.

It's not measurable per se, but it's observable through comparison.

H4 and release Reach were both absolutely awful.

Reach and H4 lost because their populations disappeared rapidly. Bungie didn't care one bit about Reach so they released it in a broken, entirely unbalanced state. As a result, Major League Gaming dropped Halo, and CoD became the flagship. It took years for 343 to fix Bungie's shit (and even even with ZBNS, the DMR still ruined the game.) 343 still wasn't ready to take the reigns though, and as a result, Halo 4 was a really poorly balanced amalgam of every popular FPS. The fans weren't fooled and ditched.

Even to this day, competitive Halo is a shadow of its former self, and the implosion of the community can be traced directly back to Reach.

So as long as 343 provides the basic necessities for a branching Halo community, it should be a smooth ride. Reach and 4 missed out on some pretty big things that held the tree together so there was nothing left for the branches to hang on.

People come to only accept that the Campaign and Multiplayer (though they are the more hefty ones) are the only essentials for a "good" Halo game. But it's much more than that. Whether or not you agree with more will be decided when Halo 5 comes out. If that game comes out and it fails just as much as Reach or Halo 4 did and you come to me asking why, I'll point out all of them individually and say why.
