You know, Fall of Reach and The Flood are the only 2 Halo books I finished, oh and that one Forerunner book that wasn't very good. I have the first Travis book but never bothered reading it because of how shit everyone said it was.

Yes.
Why when they could be bad for the Spartans?
Kurt felt responsible for every single SPARTAN-III. Having all your soldiers (except 2) die is very harrowing. He wanted his soldiers to survive the missions they went on no matter the cost.

As a result, he made questionable decisions in an attempt to boost their survival rate.
