Quote from: Septy on February 17, 2017, 02:38:03 AMInitial thoughts on Halo Wars 2 are pretty disappointing but unsurprising from the beta.I'm seriously disappointed in the unit count. HW2 has fewer units on screen than the first game and these games are a generation apart. SpoilerHere's HW2's max units. There's only 27 units on screen and it's already as max. These units are also the ones that take up the least amount of unit population.SpoilerHere's HW1 with the same units. Notice it's only taking up about 2/3rds of the population. SpoilerAnd for fun here's the max amount of units you can have in HW1. 99 individual unitsthe best console RTS i've ever played had a maximum of 16 units you could deploy on the battlefield at any given timeunit count is irrelevant when it comes to determining how good an RTS is

Just finished the Halo Wars 2 campaign, was very oddly paced.SpoilerWe get our Atriox reveal, then we hunt and eventually kill one of his subordinates Decimus. After which nothing really happens for like 5 missions, no cutscenes or anything, and then we shoot the Banished Carrier ship down, and it finally gets interesting from there, but then the game ends 2 or 3 missions after that on a cliff hanger. With nothing really resolved, Atriox is still on the Ark, just minus a Carrier, and now Anders has brought a Halo ring straight to Cortana or something like that.
Did LC move my post yet because this is exactly what i'm talking about. https://www.reddit.com/r/HaloStory/comments/5uukz6/lasky_is_a_precursor/
I don't get the people who say this one is less spammy than the first one.So far I've played like ten games and been fucked in each one by people spamming hornets or some other singular unit.May as well just play the first one. At least that has a less cluttered visual design.
Literally just rush the opponent and win.

Because about 120 seconds into the game - guess what happens? My base gets gang raped by a mob of enemy units.Yeah, counter a rush with turtling - but how the fuck am I meant to turtle if I am in the process of being raped? And this happens with every rts online I played.
Playing RTS games online is just cancer comparable to playing Defiance competitive.Literally just rush the opponent and win. Takes all strategy out of RTS, making Real time "get fucked".if you are are curious about Definace competitive MP - everyone is level 6000 (max) and uses the Invis + one-shot-kill shotgun (also level out to max). Literally no point in playing it unless you are lvl 6000 and have a maxed out shotgun.
So is Halo Wars 2 any better than its shitty predecessor? I was significantly disappointed in HW1 and 2 looked like more of the same so I haven't bothered looking into it much.
Looks and plays the same as HW1. The developers didn't learn anything to improve the gameplay/mechanics.
Thanks for the forewarning, I'll be sure to steer clear of this blunder. At least this time it's finally on PC....>There will never be a Halo RTS that plays like EaW. >tfw wasn't going to get it>tfw ordered it within like half an hour of hearing fedorekd, bacon and a couple of other people playing it and having a nostalgia trip to fucking around on HW1
but empire at war was a shitty rts
Take. That. BACK. Sure, it wasn't on the same level as Supreme Commander but for a Star Wars RTS, it was great. And at least it had space battles. Quote from: LC on February 22, 2017, 02:24:24 AMbut empire at war was a shitty rts
nosure i had fun with it and i occasionally still boot it up to play it, but it's a terrible RTS and i'd say that Halo Wars has more depth and complexity than EaW
>No space battle mode>No Conquest mode>Outside bases there's only one strategic point on a map to capture>Can't store reinforcements in standby>Only two factions>Only one hero unit per game>More depthYeah nah. grossly innacurate things aside none of what you listed none of that constitutes as depth or complexityand i didn't even touch the balancing in EaW which was basically nonexistent
What balancing issues are there? Anything can be countered. Quote from: LC on February 22, 2017, 05:15:45 PMgrossly innacurate things aside none of what you listed none of that constitutes as depth or complexityand i didn't even touch the balancing in EaW which was basically nonexistent
