An if the game wasn't able to hit 60, that would do wonders more for bad press than removal of a feature that isn't vital.

But why did they not reserve 30 fps to split-screen? Its totally possible for a game to have separate frame-rates for separate modes. I think it wasn't a technical decision but either a design or a business one.

makes sense really. the xbone is weak as fuck, they want 60fps with big open areas (which would put a lot of strain on the console if it was splitscreen)and lots of things happening. there's no way that was gonna happen with splitscreen.
So the franchise that made splitscreen popular isn't going to have splitscreen at all? Are you supposed to buy two Xbox Ones to play co op?

the game has already taken a hit graphically and in resolution because of this.

your comparison with halo 3 isn't valid either. it's a significantly less demanding game than h5 is, running at below 30fps and at 640p. it wasn't even that great looking either in comparison to halo 5 relative to the time it was released.

but sure, it's total bullshit. definitely no technical reasoning behind any of it, and you obviously know what you're talkingabout (you don't, btw).

it absolutely is an excuse. the xbone is an underpowered piece of shit. 343 can't change this, nor is it their fault. they have to work with what they're given.
if something has to go so they can achieve their vision, then unfortunately it has to go.
if microsoft hadn't used a shitty netbook cpu, and a gpu equivalent that was already outdated before 2013, then splitscreen would still be in halo 5.

i'd wager that the number of people who genuinely give a fuck about whether the game runs at 60fps is infinitesimally smaller than the number of people who would utilize splitscreen

the other stuff you mentioned is eh

maybe having vast environments and "lots of stuff happening" really does take a toll on the xbone's processing even when disregarding the number of frames, but that's pretty pathetic if that's the case

Considering that frame rate boosts how well the player is able to react to certain events, no, it is a major factor. And it's crucial in games when there is a lot happening, like Halo 5 is doing with it's bigger segments and massive (for a Halo game) worldspaces.

And, plus, 60fps is the standard for AAA games. If you can't achieve it, it makes the studio look bad. And many people find <60 to be unplayable, whereas not having splitscreen means you can't play with friends in real life. The comparison to XB1's original policies is worthless, as that actively stopped people playing the games for reasons not in their control; not many people won't be able to play because they can't play at te same time.

60 is the standard, and rightly so. It's intrinsically tied to how the player plays the game. It's not a question of muh pwetty gwafiks, it's a question of the flow of the game, an it's something you don't miss until it's gone. I went back to play some Reach campaign the other day and I eventually had to quit because the refresh rate was unbearable and made the game unenjoyable to play.

If you really want to know more, go watch, like, any TotalBiscuit video, because he pretty much destroys any argument against having 60.

it'd still undoubtedly strain the xbone even if it was 30fps, and had splitscreen.
if you were playing with a friend, but one of you was pissing about and was running away from your friend across the map, it'd mean the xbone would need to stream and render so much more, because splitscreen is essentially the game being run twice, which is why stuff like framerate, textures, level of detail, draw distance and performance take a hit when playing splitscreen.

the "new" consoles are pitifully weak.

But seriously, the console fanbase needs to accept that the PS4 and Xbox One are under powered so that MS and Sony can prioritize good gameplay over good visuals. I mean MS and Sony are just as guilty when it comes to pushing this stuff, but if the fanbase didn't eat it all up and demanded that they prioritize the opposite they'd follow the money.

You should be buying a console for its games and social features, not it's power.
