You just wait when I move to Stockton (since I have internet over there) and we'll have a match with each other in Mario Kart 8, 200cc and we'll see if it's a slot machine boy.

I'll just deliberately lag behind you (since you're so slow) until I pick up a Crazy 8, then throw the entire thing at you before the finish line :^)

But srs fam, against AI it's mostly luck. I've beaten the Staff Ghosts (specifically Mute City because that one was an actual challenge at first) on every track by a few seconds, and driving at my consistent best it seems to depend mostly on what items I get, and 8 coins in a row aren't going to help me a whole lot (unless no Red/blue shells are thrown my way). I also find it annoying how zippy the AI are. Even with the lightest possible selection they can out-accelerate you and often dash across the track at a turn rate impossible to replicate by human-controlled players. That and even as a heavy character, Toad can effortlessly knock you out of the way, and all AI seem to be hyper-aware of your exact location, trying to slipstream you or send an item your way mid-corner, throwing at an angle just outside that manageable by a Controller. This is pretty inconsequential because I'm such a fucking good driver that I leave them in the dust after the first Item boxes, but I'm not always going to be able to get an item I can defend myself right off the bat with, in which case the result is always up to the RNG, which gives away red shells to the AI like candy half the time, and I won't always be able to drift with my back against a wall to cancel out those Red shells either. So yeah, it is mainly dependent on Luck, even for skilled racers.

On a side note, I find it surprising how often the Blue Shell doesn't actually have much of an impact on the final placings, given how everybody treats it.

Items off = game on brah. I excel when I don't have to worry about being weighed down by the rebound mechanic on Green Shells. Literally the king of mini turbos.

Didn't play any DLCs. The base game kicked my ass enough, I didn't want to start paying it to try again.

DLC is bae, gotta check out the F-Zero tracks, Hyrule Circuit, Excitebike Arena and Ribbon Road.
