I got my 500GB Western Digital Hard Drive in the mail today. Made sure its compatible and can be locked.

I'm gonna follow this video closely and carefully. As soon as my Original Xbox has this hard drive installed with the old one removed, its going to make the official debug and developmental units look like toys.

I have all the tools I need to do this as well, including the wire splitter.

Doesn't that remove the software on it, like the Xbox OS?

Is there anything on old consoles that need 500GB? I remember the Playstation not having a lot.

No, it doesn't remove the software. Unleash X (which is the softmod in the video and the softmod I have) keeps the original Xbox dashboard still, just not as the main dashboard that it boots to. Doing this clones all of that information, including the original dashboard to a new hard drive.

I'm doing this to install games onto it as well as another type of emulators like Coinups which has a lot of retro games to fill up a lot of space, The Halo 2 Alpha Build, The Halo 2 Beta Build, these things will simply not install on an 8GB hard drive, and I don't have discs to burn them onto, nor do I wanna by non Xbox discs. This honestly is easier.

Also, thanks. This isn't the first time I took apart my Original Xbox, so I know it pretty well already.

Would be nice. The Original Xbox was probably the best one out of every console Microsoft released. In terms of hardware, this thing is like a tank. I've had mine for nearly 15 years now since mine was made in 2002.

Welp. I didn't upgrade my hard drive just yet. I did set it to slave mode yesterday and I'm going to test it with my Hard Drive test kit to make sure its completely erased and formatted correctly. I don't want to have it cloned, put the new hard drive in the Xbox and have it give me an error code instead.

Because then I'd have to tear the console apart again just to figure out what went wrong.
