"Drop your armour on the ground, press Alt F4, and enjoy your new gilded version!"Never fell for the many many many scams on Runescape but that by far was the most successful.
The Karissa the Destroyer thing was fucked up on a number of levels. For those who don't know, last year, Gamestop was holding a Smash tournament. Participating was a little ten-year-old girl called Karissa, and she ended up destroying everybody in the tournament. Not only was it cool to see someone her age perform so well in the tournament--it was also refreshing to see someone who wasn't a twenty-something male playing the game. Not a lot of girls play Smash, and the only one who I can think of (Milktea) stopped playing the game due to harassment and pressures from her fellow male gamers, so the Smash community hasn't exactly been a very welcoming community for women, which sucks. So seeing someone like Karissa doing well brought in some degree of encouragement to that end....Only, it ended up being a hoax.Karissa was revealed to be a fraud. As she would play her matches, a top player called Korean DJ, hidden in a closet, would play her matches for her, while Karissa would pretend to tap buttons on her own controller. The entire thing was just a marketing ploy for Smash 4--trying to get people like me all hyped for the game's competitive scene. The most offensive thing about the whole thing is that Karissa, being ten, is too young to understand that she was being exploited. Both her age and her gender were being used as marketing tactics, and she didn't even know it.It was an insult to her, an insult to women, an insult to the Smash community, and an insult to gaming in general, really.Fuck KoreanDJ for being a part of that.

Ghost of Lockout. I'm not sure if this was debunked or not but it was still strange when I first heard about this. I still think it was Bungie trolling a random guy.
