What retard thought making several different versions of SF was a good idea?

I doubt it was that simple. You have to remember that Street Fighter was originally an arcade game--not really designed for home consoles. Popular demand probably resulted in the updated versions, but you were still paying fifty cents every single time either way. So it didn't really make a difference.

It wasn't a matter of "why would we have people pay the same game"--it was a matter of "why would we not have an updated arcade cabinet with extra characters and better balancing and stuff".
