Yeah the first time going through that is a nightmare. That place was piss easy, though, all you have to do is take your time. It's easy once you know whats ahead, but first time stepping on those traps was painfully lulzyThe only trap that killed me was the first mimic you encounter (Oh boy look a chest - OH GOD WHAT THE FUCK IS IT DOING dead). Other than that, I got through without issue. Do people have a habit of getting themselves killed rather easy on this game or something?

too bad i stopped playing dark souls not because it was hard, but because it promotes being an asshole to people for no reasoni haven't played enough of it to know if i'd find it difficult

LOL beat the fuck out of the Rodeo brothers, solo (so much for the legendary "City of the Gods"). Capra Demon? Dead our first encounter. Gargoyles? Solo'd. Stray Demon? Made him my bitch. Blighttown? Okay lagtown is a piece of shit, but I tanked through it. Sif? LOL sit the fuck down, pooch. Are people unable to adapt quickly or something? The fact that you've admitted to actually looking at videos and guides to help you kind of invalidates this to a certain extent.

Quote from: Shepard Clause on December 18, 2014, 04:05:11 PMIf I looked up the guides before I went in, it would be invalid. But that would ruin the game for me and also give massive spoilers, none of which has happened because, LIKE I BLATANTLY HAVE STATED, I only look them up for that portion of the game once I've beat it myself. Blindly. For a game like Dark Souls, using guides to discovering that you missed things like fire keeper souls and then going back to collect them is a pretty big deal that does, to a certain extent, invalidate your boasting.

I didn't use the guide to discover things I missed, I wanted to see how other players dealt with that section. It invalidates nothing at all, especially since so much of the "toughness" of the game is actually fighting and surviving, which is no issue for me to do. I've gone into all the boss fights not knowing what to expect or how they attack or blah blah blah. It doesn't detract from what I've done in the least.I guess we'll just have to disagree then. To me, things like backtracking all the way from Anor Londo to Blighttown because a guide showed you that there's a hidden Fire Keeper's Soul there means it's no longer a blind run. You're free to think otherwise, but for a game as non-linear as Dark Souls, relying on videos and guides, even if they deal with areas you've already been to, gives you way too much additional information from these "veteran players" to still be considered a valid blind playthrough and definitely makes this a whole lot less impressive.

Quote from: Shepard Clause on December 18, 2014, 04:28:39 PMToo bad it's entirely irrelevant to my abilities to succeed in the game blind, which I've been doing. Not really. Learning about things like hidden upgrade gives you a clear edge over what's still to come. You used a guide to help you obtain things that you wouldn't have found on your own and that gave you a clear advantage for the following parts you went in "blind". You can keep trying to deny it all you want, but in the end you relied on guides to help you be better informed and equipped to deal with parts of the game, which does detract from the achievement. There's really nothing else to say about this.

It's irrelevant, whether or not you like it.>using guides to obtain advantages, upgrades and information that'll make the following parts of a game considerably easier has no real effects on what's yet to comeSo, if a new player who just made it to the Undead Burg, watches a guide of areas he's already briefly passed through that shows him how to obtain a Fire Great Scythe +1, a ton of extra humanity, three fire keeper souls, extra lightning resins, a great shield, a lot of upgrade materials and a few big souls before even getting to the first real boss, that doesn't in any way detract from the fact that he then manages to beat Taurus on his first try? What you did probably wasn't that extreme, but it comes down to the same thing. Dark Souls is such an open and diverse game that if you know how (or if you go to a guide that tells you how), you can do and obtain a lot in very early and basic areas that very few people would actually figure out on their own.You used a guide that helped you obtain clear advantages that you otherwise would've missed and that greatly help you deal with the upcoming areas. You can keep saying that it didn't effect your playthrough at all, but it is pretty relevant. Now, I'm not saying you should feel bad about this or that it makes you any less of a player. I just don't think you're in a position to go around saying "lol, dark souls is such an easy game, I have no idea how people can struggle with it" when you relied on guides that undeniably provided you with a clear advantage.

You've exaggerated any sort of "benefit" these guides have ever done for me. LORD ALMIGHTY ONE FIREKEEPER SOUL, STOP THE PRESSES2. It's irrelevant. The whole point is being that I've gone through it blind, whether or not I come back to see a guide from an experienced player. It's also more irrelevant since in each area I explore them completely and thoroughly on my own, and since I hated blighttown so much I left before I completely surveyed the area. I had intended to in the future, so the guide would have been irrelevant anyway.3. It's still irrelevant.
Aaaand just like that, this thread just turned into a Dark Souls shit fest.
