Added Indy Racing 2000 and NHL Breakaway 99 today. Here's a chart of all the sports/racing games I still need:

Spoiler

Games highlighted in green are "expensive" games that go for $40 or more loose. If I were to just buy all of these at once, I would have 84% of the library—the sad part being that there's only 4 or 5 here that I could actually see myself enjoying.

Still no sign of Banjo-Tooie, and I've been to at least three new retro game shops that I've never been to before lately.

over the course of ten years, probably at least $2000, with about half of that being spent over the last couple

if you think that's irresponsible, you should see CIB collectors

Two grand's not bad, really. That's a decent vehicle in good condition for a relative steal. Least you're not me. I've dumped 7k into the lunacy that is the stock market over the last two months. I could fuck off from my job if I dump 20k into things, but the mark I set is 60k. All just money anyway. Made to be spent.

Road rash 64 and San Francisco Rush 2049 are banger games. I'd actually like to hear your thoughts on the former if you get to play it, the gameplay and combat is so stupid and funny it never fails to make me laugh. NTSC in particular has some jank shenanigans with AI racers clipping through the ground and getting sent into the stratosphere that made me cackle with tears of laughter as a kid.

Picked up some N64 today—nothing I would call noteworthy (except Rampage: World Tour, maybe), but enough to bring me down to less than 70 games to collect, 33 of which are in the sports/racing category.

I feel so close, but so far. Prices are getting fucking ludicrously insane. I found a loose copy of PGA European Tour—a basic fucking golf game—and they were asking $70 for it. Once I get Banjo-Tooie, if there's seriously nothing else to collect but sports games that go beyond the MSRP for a modern day PS5 game, I'll probably just consider my collection to be "ghetto complete" for my own sake.

Here's every N64 game I may never own, unless I get lucky or bite the bullet on their price.

- The holy grail of the system is ClayFighter: Sculptor's Cut, but it's just an updated version of a game I already possess, so if I never get to have it, it's no skin off my back.

- Super Bowling, Stunt Racer 64, PGA European Tour, and NFL Blitz Special Edition are all just sports game that I can probably live without, as well, but I actually really want to get Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 for the simple reason that it was the last game made for the system. I can see myself biting the bullet on this one; it's pricey, but not absurdly so.

- Sometimes, there's an unfortunate situation where the ONLY reason a game is considered rare or valuable is because it was released at the tail-end of a system's life cycle. Bomberman 64: The Second Attack is probably the most egregious example of this, especially because it's part of a big name franchise, and it was never re-released; paying $250 for a loose copy is your only legal option. It's not even good, apparently.

- Games like Worms: Armageddon and Transformers: Beast Wars Transmetals may be expensive to get on the N64, but at least they happen to be available for cheaper on other platforms, such as the PlayStation.

- Ogre Battle 64 and Harvest Moon 64 are both available as Virtual Console titles on the Wii U's e-shop, so I'll probably just end up picking them up on that platform.

- Snowboard Kids 2, Chameleon Twist 2, and the two Goemon games are the ones that hurt me the most. They're all considered great games, and none of them are available on anything else. For these ones, I'll just have to cross my fingers that Nintendo Switch Online will have add N64 games some day.

- Strangely enough, if I were to hold out for digital re-releases for all the games I want the most on this chart, the most logical game to physical purchase on this chart would end up being Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine and Duck Dodgers, because these are never getting re-released.

- Starcraft 64 would be such a cool game to pick up, and I'm still kicking myself for passing it up that one time I actually saw it on a shelf (it would've sent me way over budget, but still).

- I recently beat Earthworm Jim 1 and 2, so Earthworm Jim 3D would be the next game in the series for me, I suppose. But the original creators apparently have nothing to do with this game, and it got bad reviews because the charm was lost, or something. It would be a fun novelty, at the very least.

- Daikatana is an infamously bad game by John Romero, and it's kind of a meme. I might bite the bullet some day.

Snowboard Kids 2 has been one of the more expensive games I've wanted to get, even when I first started looking.

Boy if I could go back to 2006 with the budget of every dollar I've spent on games since 2010 lol.

Also good luck finding a copy of the N64 version of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3.
well, two years later, i finally found Pro Skater 3 out in the wild—along with three other random sports games

that brings me to 80% completion with precisely 60 games to go

STILL NO BANJO-TOOIE

has it really been over a year since i've updated this thread? wow
well, i'm down to the last 33 N64 games now. less than 1 percent away from 90% of the library—and yep, i did end up finding banjo-tooie

19 of them are sports/racing
16 of them go for $10-60
5 of them are worth $200+ (so i'll probably never get those)
realistically, 285/296 will end up being my grand total unless i win some kind of lottery

Banjo Tooie is more tedious than its predecessor [spoilerr](backtracking and all of grunty industries made sure of that)[/spoiler] but still good fun imo. Very much worth a playthrough if you enjoyed Kazooie. Slightly different formula but they got the zany worldbuilding down to an art form.
