I said this in another thread and nobody batted and eye. That's pretty retarded considering how important the French were in WWI

Apparently the Russians are gonna be a DLC as well. It's not like they were the entire reason WWI started or anything...
"Entire reason" is a huge stretch. Tension between England and Germany, Russian humiliation from the earlier AH-Serbia conflict of 1909 and the Russo-Japanese war, lingering French humiliation from the German-French conflicts during Germany's Unification, the slow fall of the Ottoman Empire and the proceeding Balkan Wars kicked off by Italy's hostile takeover of Libya, Serbia's rising hostility and support of the Black Hand due to Ferdinand's political views, and Austria taking advantage of his assassination to wipe Serbia from the map.

There were dozens of reasons for WWI starting.

Yeah but Russian aggression is the whole reason Germany began to mobilize which is why France got spooked and then Bismark went balls out so that he wouldn't be stuck in a two front defensive war.
Russia's fault.

Depends on how they do the factions.

If it's just like how they did factions in the previous games where they don't really affect gameplay all too much then it doesn't bother me.

If faction actually changes what weapons and vehicles you can use (As in, the vehicles aren't just reskins of the same thing but all actually play differently) then yeah that's bullshit.

Russia's fault.
Germany's initial war-plan was based upon Bismark's avoidance of a two front war from France and AH/Russia in the late 1800s. And their planning in ~1912 was for England, with whom they thought war was inevitable. You forget that Bismark was dead before the war even started, and the Kaiser was a shit bag imperialist who couldn't resist drama.

Germany aligns with AH, AH declares war on Serbia, Russia backs Serbia (prior engagements and for their lack of ability to do so a few years prior), France has a military agreement with Russia and would have joined the conflict anyway, England joins on the technicality of Germany breaching the Belgian treaties.

To say that Russia is the cause because of immediate events is disingenuous, especially that (in the idea of one country being responsible) most throw that blame on Germany due to its warplan given a starting date of 1914 and their insistence on how AH should capitalize on the Archduke's death. Fischer is a dud who was capitalizing on anti-Nazi beliefs in the 60s, but it's still stupidly one of the higher competing theories for why the war started.

Wow, EA finds a way to ruin everything. All nations should be in the base game. Not chopped off and sold separately. This has ruined any chance of me purchasing this game.

People said that Second Assault should have been in the launch of BF4, people said the same about China Rising because it was free if you pre-ordered.

6 Factions is still twice as many as the BF4 and three times as many as BF3, so I'm not surprised they are using other factions as DLC rather than including all 11 or so at launch.

My only raised eyebrow is why they chose to make the frogs DLC rather than the Italians or the knock-off krauts austrians.

Bongs, Krauts, Austrians, Italians, Kebabs and Yanks is still a pretty good lineup

I guess this is one of the many results of overhyping a game automatically.

I would attribute it to trying to appeal to the US audience (hence why we're seeing a French DLC rather than an American one). Also, the game is apparently set in 1918, explaining why Russia isn't present (Russia withdrew in 1917 because of the Communist Revolution).
The maps set in France are based on battles that primarily involved the British.

Honestly, I don't care. I enjoy BF a lot, I'm excited for the new game, and people who didn't see this coming are kidding themselves. We already have a lot of factions (compared to the usual U.S. vs. China vs. Russia).

I really hope for the Austro-Hungarian Empire they don't go the easy route and have them only speak standard German. The Empire was highly multi-ethnic (hence why it was weakening by the time of WW1: Nationalism), and I hope that is represented in the game by having the Austro-Hungarian soldiers speak a variety of languages. I want to hear an Austrian German dialect (not contemporary standard German Hochdeutsch), Hungarian, Czech, and so forth. That would help to make the Austro-Hungarian Empire feel distinct from the German Empire.

Would be nice, but probably wouldn't happen. DICE chooses bits and pieces of authenticity at random.

It's not set in 1918 because it's not just people sitting in trenches forever on the Western Front. It's taking place around the start of it. At least on some of the maps. Russia just isn't involved in the game so far.

Well, people like to complain and overreact, you see.

For those who would accuse me of shilling: If you didn't expect DLC in a battlefield game then you're being unrealistic. There's nothing to indicate that we won't see the same general amount of content that comes with a Battlefield game at launch. Battlefield generally releases with around 10 maps at launch, and I think six factions is better than it could have been (they could have simplified it to Germans vs. British or Americans. I'm surprised they even included Austria-Hungary and Italy. Do I necessarily support making France DLC? No, but I'm not too bothered by it.

True. I would guess the Eastern European front will be DLC as well. Perhaps we'll get a Serbian faction as well as the Russian faction (although Serbia would be a stretch).

That'd be cool.

Also, if there should be any DLC, it really should be the Americans. France was a vital asset of WW1. Oh well, I guess it can't all be perfect.

Unlike the US the French were in the war since the start of it. If there's going to be a DLC then it should be the US since we were only in the war for about a year.
