This shouldn't be surprising. Nintendo has the mentality of a toy company and because of this they deliberately don't meet the consumers demand and create artificial scarcity. This was seen quiet a bit with the wii, amiibos, and most recently the NES classic where most stores received under 10 units at a time.

I suppose with headlines of them being sold out it would create interest for people who wonders why they seem so popular.
Kind of smart actually.
Certainly better than overestimating the demand and having headlined of low percentages sold.

They did the same shit for the Nintendo Classic - all stores ran out of the consoles and scumbags were selling it for almost 1k on Ebay and other sites like that. This strategy did not work out for them with N64 because the Playstation was in stock and it sold a fuck ton. Its just Nintendo being Nintendo.

I'm not defending their behavior, just saying it's smart from a business standpoint. The main function of companies is to make money, after all.

edit: somehow this comment got an edit from another comment, what the fuck?

Did the system sell out due to a lot of buyers or is it simply because Nintendo didn't stock enough systems for demand?

High demand + purposely low supply.
They KNEW there will be demand for the system since the Ninkids were playing on basically Tiger Electronics wrist-watch games and now Nintendo is coming out with a PS1. Of course they will want to jump on the new hardware.

Nothing I saw in their event really made me want to go out and preorder a Switch. It's just another gimmicky console followed by Nintendo pretending they were at E3 with no competition. The only thing that really surprised me was not region locking their system, but even then that's more of a criticism on all game consoles beforehand. I also look at most of those 80 third party developers and see nothing but shovel-ware being released from most of them.

‘The most inoffensive user on this website’ - Verbatim
At least we're seeing a major franchise title on launch this time in Zelda, even if it is just a glorified Wii-U game.

The Wii-U was completely barren aside from BC and the eShop until 2014.

They're even kind enough to give us Smash 5 as a year 1 game this time

Is it though? In the end, all you're really doing is making people wait. I can see this work if you expect low sales but this is not why Nintendo is doing it (I'm sure the Swap will sell well). Scumbags will once again sell it on ebay for 3k % profit.

But it's better (for Nintendo, not us) than risking higher amounts of units shipped, if it would mean that shelfs would be full with much less demand than supply. By doing this they're artificially driving up the experienced value.

Still a scummy practice though.

>$300
>$70 controller
>BoTW its flagship launch title, also releasing on Wii-U
>Most of the 80 third parties are no-names, expect massive shovelware
>Paid online
>"Free" games with paid online is only a rental for that month unless you want to buy it
>More waglan gimmicks
>Skyrim is an "impressive" feature
>2.5 hour battery life

This is it, Nintendo's last ever video game console. We're seeing a childhood hero kill himself in front of our own eyes. At least now we'll finally get Mario Kart on other consoles.

I mean, the gimmicks of this console are good: they're neat and practical, but not intrusive.  You can ignore them and devs don't need to build around them.  I think motion controls and stupid controllers worked once really well, but held the company back long-term.

The console seems nice and has a lot of potential.  It'd be amazing to see Nintendo go back to the Gamecube golden-era, but that's provided they invest in their devs.

As far as paid online goes, no thanks and if it's of the same quality, then lol what a scam.

Yeah I think Nintendo might have lost the PR battle with paid online, but I mean, what else CAN they do? It needs to be on par with Xbone/PS4.

Going to have to echo True here. Especially when you're looking at how they're doing storage with Micro SD cards, which are both expensive and have the propensity to corrupt data or just flat out lose it when used heavily. Which if you're using them for gaming, will be used heavily. They're also slower than your standard mechanical HDD.
