Since the MG series has ended, I figure why not show our favorite Metal Gear games (since there all done)

1. MGS 3: Snake Eater (One of the best MGS games)

2. MGS 4: Guns of the Patriot (Badass story with badass gameplay with badass characters, that ending thou ;__; )

3. MGS ( I don't care how old this is, it's still a great game)

4. MGS 2 (Not sure why people hate Raiden in this, i thought he was good, not great thou. The story is great and Solidus is a badass)

5. MGS V: The Phantom Pain/ Ground Zeroes (they're all connected so why not, also there OK, not the best sadly.)

6. MGS Peace Walker (Great Story, Great Characters, Music is great to, the rest? Meh)

7. MG2 (Better then MG, that's for sure, It's not a bad game, and i still like it, just not one of the best IMO)

8. MG (Meh, could of been better)

9. MGR: Revengence (I like to think of it as a new story since solid snakes and big bosses stories are done, that doesn't mean MGR is bad, I liked it, I thought it was good.)

10. MGS: Portable Ops (IMO, Story is good but the game is terrible, bad MGS game, I don't know what Kojima Productions was smoking, but whatever.)

11. MG Acid  (I can't believe I forgot about this game, WHATEVER YOU DO DO NOT PLAY THIS, the worst MGS game I have ever played, kojima? Kojima! KOJIMAAAAAAAAAAAA!)

MGS1.

Has the best plot, characters, music and setting.

Still fun to play.

MGS3 has the best and most tearjerking ending, though.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was different, and I still liked it, it depends on how the game is. Metal Gear Acid was a horrible MGS game, never liked it, never liked the story, and I still won't like it.

10: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

Easily the worst in the franchise. With an unnecessarily convoluted story (even for a Metal Gear installment), poor (and that's a severe understatement) level design, god-awful writing, unimaginative plot devices and multiple cases of character suicide, the game has maybe a handful of Kojima-esque moments. Less than 5, at most.

This is what happens when you force a developer to create a game he has no intention of making under threat of murder. Fucking retards.

9: Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops

For a game without Kojima's name on it, I'm willing to give this game's story a pass. I actually consider it to be very well done. Unfortunately, the team was inexperienced and didn't really have the developing chops to create an entirely new Metal Gear game for a new platform with less buttons and hardware capabilities than the previous installment. Pair that with the difficulty in following up Snake Eater, and, well...

Still, the team should be commended for the writing. It feels very at home in the canon.

8: Metal Gear

The original is very dated, I won't lie. But it deserves to be here because it started everything. For a game that came out only 3 years after the time period that the latest game is set in (1987), it's still an exemplar of Kojima's ingenuity and creative prowess. he took the limitations of the hardware he was forced to work with and made it his strength.

7: Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

What can I say -- I like Revengeance. For what it sets out to do, it succeeds. The inclusion of the stealth sections feels a little bit forced and can actually ruin some enjoyment, though. The story is as over-the-top as you'd expect from Platinum Games. I actually found myself thinking more and more about a critical moment in the story, involving Raiden's character. I think the game is actually deeper than most people give it credit for -- but if I ever get around to my "review", I'll go more into it there.

I also have a soft-spot for the soundtrack. Yes, I unironically like Revengeance's soundtrack -- sue me. A Stranger I Remain and It Has To Be This Way kick ass.

Oh, and I LOVE Sunny in this game. She's super cute.

6. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

Before you start yelling at me "Haven't you even watched SuperBunnyHop's dissection on the meta-narrative of Sons of Liberty?" -- save it. I've seen it tons of times, and while yeah, it was expertly executed, the game itself isn't that fun. I want to be Snake, not Raiden. (Well, MGS2 Raiden. He gets cool eventually.) And I don't think the transition from pseudo-3D of MGS to the real 3D of MGS2 works all that great for Metal Gear (which is why they fixed it in Subsistence and it's stayed that way ever since.)

I respect the game as a narrative (like I do most games I enjoy), but it's not something I go back to play because it's super fun or anything, like I do with MGS and MGS3.

Not to mention that MGS4 effectively makes most of that meta-narrative irrelevant, but that's more an issue with MGS4 than anything else.

5. Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake

The epitome of what every sequel should strive for, every single facet of this game has been improved and sometimes perfected to a T, with additional mechanics being implemented for good measure. The writing, the pacing, the level design, the music, the characters, their art, and the stealth gameplay all saw massive improvement. I consider certain parts of the game to represent Kojima's finest moments as a writer -- particularly the conversations with Gray Fox and Big Boss.

Now don't get me wrong -- it's still dated. But far less than Metal Gear, and arguably Metal Gear Solid.

4. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker

The first part of a two-part story arc; Peace Walker is the story-driven version of The Phantom Pain. What it's hardware capabilities lack, it makes up for with the series's most realistic dialogue and characters, with an awesome cinematic-style featuring artwork by Shinkawa IIRC. It would have been a huge disappointment if the team tried to create cutscenes with the engine, so I'm glad that they, y'know, didn't.

That isn't to say that Peace Walker has bad gameplay -- it's quite the contrary. It just happens to be more story-oriented, which is the best thing about it.

It should be noted that what Peace Walker manages to do, gameplay-wise, it was built upon the faults of Portable Ops.

3. Metal Gear Solid V

Now, the second and final part of the two-part arc: The Phantom Pain (including Ground Zeroes). With inarguably the best gameplay in the series, the sheer amount of content, attention to detail, and player-driven action sections is sure to make you easily spend at least 50 hours at minimum with a smile on your face.

Every part of this game's gameplay is expertly crafted by the gods of gaming themselves, who only show their hand once in a generation. I, myself put in 99 hours with the first week of it's release, and found myself playing for hours on end (something that's pretty unheard of for me).

The story definitely takes a back seat this time, though. Something I was extremely disappointed about. The game that should be the most important and eventful in the series ends up being the least crucial component of the canon. If there was ever a MGS game to skip if you only wanted the story, The Phantom Pain would be the number one game on that list. Hence, why it's not #1, despite having the best gameplay.

2. Metal Gear Solid

The one that started my journey as a loremaster. It's hard to pin-point exactly what makes this game so memorable, because those aspect have been refined to perfection in the later games. It has David Hayter's best performance as Solid Snake, and the FOX-HOUND Unit is the most well-written bosses of the series, for one. Memorable and ingenious uses of 4th-wall breaking moments, like the Psycho Mantis memory-card read. The best soundtrack (even better than MG2:SS, IMO), too. It has it's faults as well, but it's hard to call them that.

You can probably tell this is my most biased "review", though. I'm finding it difficult to articulate what I like about the game besides nostalgia.

1. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

The only game I would call a masterpiece in the series. Some people say that MGS is the best, and I cannot help but disagree. Every single detail in Snake Eater serves to hammer home the game's theme of scene. Naked Snake is a much more human and relatable character than Solid Snake (note: that doesn't make him a better character. it just lets him get away with some funny ass shit, like the cardboard box dialogue with Sigint). The game doesn't sacrifice humour or fun for seriousness or logic, and it never apologise for that. It's Kojima at his absolute best. And I think the blow to his ego after MGS2 really helped him harness his creative capabilities. It's like everything that could go right, did go right. It's not flawless, but damn, it's close to it.

It also has the most well-written female character in all of gaming: The Boss.

Hope this answer your question.
