Did you guys timewarp here from 1990 or something?

No I don't wholly rely on autosaves to do everything for me. I save after every significant quest/when I turn the game off. I would at least expect however, the game to autosave during precise moments within gameplay, not 3 hours before I even started the fucking quest. This has been an imperative features for games since, well, I can remember actually playing games. Don't think I've ever encountered an RPG that didn't have the most basic of autosaves.
Why would you not manually save at any point within a 3 hour window

I've not even had a problem with the save system. It'll save and checkpoint pretty often for me, even then I don't trust autosaves.

3 hours sounds like a bullshit exaggeration.

I saved the game after killing that Draconoid thing in the middle of a field, then went on to begin the Hunting A Witch Quest.

I get killed by one of the Wraiths in the cave (at this point I would have expected the game to have autosaved after every precise point in the level) but nope, end up straight back where I had last saved, having never started the quest.

3 hours is an exaggeration yeah, but I'm not that fucking far off.

okay lmao, get this

>do the boxing/fighting quests in Velen
>literally roflstomp every fighter in three to four hits, including the supposed "Champion Of Velen"
>get to fighting the Bloody Baron, a fat middle aged drunk who probably has little to to no fighting skills
>kills me in two hits

someone tell me why this game should even be worthy of a 7/10, let alone a 10/10?

All I'm saying is I thought it was common practice to save whore in rpgs, just because the save could corrupt or something, let alone not save in the first place or whatever the case is with the Witcher 3.

As are the supposed combatants that I fought with little to no difficulty, and none of them were overweight or alcoholic.

"hurr durr ur jus shit"

Yeah okay, I'm shit even though the difficulty between enemies is ridiculously inconsistent. Yeah it's just my skills given that lvl 6 bears give me no problem but a pack of lvl 4 wolves with insane hit detection kill me in a matter of seconds. Yeah it's totally me.

Did you play the quests I mentioned? If you haven't, come back to me and tell me they aren't ridiculously easy to defeat, then compare it to the Bloody Baron fight.

Then you should realise the inconsistency in difficulty then.

Why would a fat old drunk be harder to defeat than actual fighters, including a commander or whatever in his prime? Doesn't really make sense.

But I digress, this wouldn't have been an issue to me if the game was actually competent enough in autosaving me during a quest.

Maybe if you weren't incompetent and manually saved in the first place, or hell, the second time after you died the first time at a convenient point you wouldn't be in this mess reliving 2-3 hours of the quest again....again.

The failings of an autosave system aren't the reason you have to go back twice. It's fair enough if you forgot or something the first time, but you realised the autosave system sucked, and relied on it the second time?

I don't. The only time I ever actually manually save during an rpg is when I finish playing the game. Genuinely never had a problem with an autosave in any other kind of rpg, or other genre for that matter.

Why should I have to do this when it has been a basic feature of contemporary games for the past 10 years now? You guys actually think it's acceptable that gamers should have to manually save every half hour? Do you enjoy shilling broken features or something?

Yeah I know I suck. We've all established that.

Like I said, the difficulty doesn't bother me. What bothers me is the endless backtracking because the game doesn't even have something that should've been implemented since day 1. Literally could find better autosave features on Spyro The Dragon.

Playing fallout 3/nv on a console helped teach me the value of saving constantly <.<

Crashes, Infinite loading screens, the occasional incident where I actually died to lose progress...

It sucks but it's just good form >.>
Skyrim's autosave system was actually reasonably good provided you weren't cross-countrying without a doorway. From what I've seen TW3 doesn't lend itself too well to good autosave points but if the system is garbage anyway it's best to just get used to the constant saving.

The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body.

The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness - at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white.
Dying once in Dragons Dogma reminded me to save manually.

Here's a nifty philosophy Mordo.

Savestates in games are a lot like transmissions in vehicles.

You generally always have two options for what you want. Standard manual. Or Automatic.

Automatic is shit.

Manual is tried and true.

First rule of video games. Manual save. ALWAYS, MANUAL SAVES.

The Bloody Baron and the Velen boxing quest were easy af. I didn't even get hit because i'm capable of using the left trigger and B button, are you?

And yes, he's got a strong swing but what were you wearing? Rags? If you have even semi-decent armour you should be able to survive two hits easy. Or at least you should use Quen

You are correct, I was talking about the Bloody Baron. I activated Quen when in the barn and it was active going into the fight. But of course I couldn't cast it during the fight

From what I've seen it usually saves at the begging/end of each quest, though I've gotten into the habit of saving often enough that it wouldn't have affected me
