Fallout 3 Impressions Thread - Progress: Complete (Main Quest)

I know it's a mod, but like, Fallout 3 has this UGLY green filter for god knows whatever freaking reason (and NV with an orange one. Needless to say, it makes the sun non existent too...). So if you don't want it to look worse than it already is, I'd highly recommend that.

I assumed it was to make the landscape seem more, uh, irradiated? I dunno. It doesn't bother me, really. Thanks, though.

I'm playing on PS3 anyway.

I always like to even it out as much as I can, for a variety of reasons. First of all--I don't really know what any of these stats are for right now, so I don't want to invest in something that I may end up regretting later. Second, I hate committing to just one or two things. Third, even though none of the stats are high, none of them are low, either. This gives me a solid foundation, I think. I'm sure it doesn't matter a whole lot anyway.

You can increase your SPECIAL stats through a perk (I think it's called Extra Training, something involving "Training" anyway). But seeing as the base game has a level cap of 20 it's a decision between raising your SPECIAL stats and getting a perk, many of which are very useful.

On the subject of SPECIAL, Bethesda has released a bunch of little cartoons in preparation for Fallout 4's release. Obviously not that relevant to your playthrough, as you're playing F3, but they're rather entertaining in my opinion. Here's the playlist, Luck should be releasing next week.

You can also find bobble heads across the wasteland that boost it up +1.

I'm just gonna assume these early dialogue choices don't really affect anything. Do they?

I mean, you can "abuse" saving to get a preferred outcome but when you do 10-30 mins of stuff you generally want to save.

I believe PS3's is like the most unstable one.

The Tunnel Snakes didn't piss off the first time I warned them about the Overseer.

They did the second time.

Getting "chaplain" gives me the Barter, Big Guns, and Speech skills.

Barter actually doesn't seem that bad.
I'll replace Big Guns with Small Guns.
And... Speech is okay, I guess.

The first time I played this game, I actually killed the Overseer, because I didn't know that I had any other choice. <_<

On PC yes

On console, well.... The aiming mechanics are horrible. New Vegas added ADS and it helped a LITTLE, but even then PC needed the mod Project Horizons to make it more competent and actually use it without relying on VATS.

Bethesda thankfully saw how popular it was and implemented some elements into it for Fallout 4.

Literally not at all. The vanilla gunplay in Fallout 3 is terrible. You rely on VATS. As Luci said, NV is a far better game overall.

Even when I was playing it on 360 I never used it because I hated being taken out of combat to use it

it was so jarring

V.A.T.S. just takes a lot of the fun out of actually hitting/shooting your enemies to death, I think. I dunno.

If I need some precision aiming, I'll use it, but...
